Well, for the first time in a couple years I didn't draw an elk tag. I put in for units that were in high demand so I sorta asked for it.... BUT...my gal asked me to put her in and to make a long story short she drew 1 of 15 tags for the 1st rifle bull hunt in the Valle Caldera which is about 20 minutes from the house. This is the hunt I keep trying to get Robb to put in for so he can come visit his son.... Unbelievable....the Caldera is home to the largest heard in NM and I don't just mean numbers..... www.nps.gov/vall/planyourvisit/hunting.htm

Lucky??? I get to play mule after she drops that monster bull.
Maybe not though. She's not so interested in the horns. She wants one to EAT!
I'll try and find her a good one but the quality of the shot so she enjoys herself is the most important thing.

You got that one right Chief! When I took my antelope I wanted 1: to use a revolver, 2: use the sticks my daughter gave me and most importantly 3: make sure my wife was present when the opportunity presented itself. It is one of her greatest memories she says.

I just saw this. I love that area and try to stop by the Caldera every time I have to go to Las Alamos. The first time I saw it was taking the back way from Albuquerque to Santa Fe and came around the corner, so to speak, and saw how huge it was. Makes you just stare. The few times I stopped by, I never saw any elk, but saw plenty of mule deer near White Rock. Nothing at all like South Carolina, but I do love the area. Y'all need to get some more air up there......
