Any preferences for larger critters? I had Mike Bellm rechamber a new 22lr TC G2 barrel for my older pre easy open contender last year. I received it in August so I didn't get much time to test it before fall. So far it has shot everything I have put through it extremely well. I am looking for something that expands but will penetrate deep enough if pressed into service on something up to the size of wolf.

When I use my Mag fro large critters, coyotes, bobcats, or scouting for pigs I much prefer the original style Winchester 40gr bullets with real jacketed bullets instead of the plated jacket stuff that has become more prevalent recently. The JHP does well for stuff in the 30-50 pound range, if I were to need to shoot a pig I'd try for a brain shot with it. The FMJ load penetrates very well, With minimal pelt damage according to Elmer Keith.
That said,.....I'd personally prefer something bigger for hunting a wolf, something along the lines of 120-130 grain bullets as a minimum. Now if it was for trapline dispatch, 22 mag would be fine. Trapr

+1 on what bigbrowndog said. The Fiocchi and the CCI both offer a 40gr JSP The CCI is called Gamepoint. These offerings are for pistols, ( I assume), as I once had a Marlin rifle that only liked the 50gr Federal ammo.

I bought a Savage 34M when I was 13 (44 years ago) with the proceeds from my trapline. Or I should say my dad bought it as I was too young to buy a gun at the time so technically it is his.
The only ammo available back then was Winchester 40 grain HP and FMJ and the same in CCI. I used mostly the Winchester and killed truckloads of woodchucks with both rounds. I also took many coyotes, fox and coon with the same loads. The FMJ's works okay on woodchucks but unless I made a CNS shot on anything bigger they were lacking in performance. I never pushed the range past about 75 yards with the HPs on fox or coyote but they did the job with a good chest shot.
I played with some of the other offerings as they became available; Federal's 50 grain HP and I think it was Remington, had a 35 grain plastic tipped load, and Fiocchi a 40 grain HP. My rifle never liked the Remington or Fiocchi. The Federals shot and performed okay but availability was spotty so I went back to my reliable Winchester 40 grain load. I've been with it now for 44 years, minus a couple of years of playing with the other loads. I'm probably too set in my ways to change now.

Shot the Federal 50 gr HP today. I fired several 3 shot groups to adjust zero. The last group was 3/4 inch at 75 yards prone off a bipod with no rear support with the scope on its max 7x. This should fulfill my requirements just fine.

I'm a huge fan of the Winchester Supreme, the ones in the little black box

Ya jeffer, me to. There has been two versions of them, 30gr and 34gr. I've always used the 34gr with total satisfaction, tried everything available at the time and those produced 3/4"-1" groups at 100yds at close to 2200 fps if I remember right. That velocity and group size is from a 24" Anschutz, they were slower, but still very accurate from a 9422M XTR.
I did try the Fed 50gr in the little Winny at one point and killed a couple coyotes at close range off a mouth call, but for whatever reason I moved on and settled on the Winchester Supreme.
