I have a Colt SAA replica (Gaucho) and I am now loading Unique with a 250 gr LRNFP bullet. I have 2 sources, one states max is 8.5 grs (Lyman) and another (Alliant) states 9.5 grs. I have just shot 8 grs and it did fine. Does anyone know what the max is and the pressure for a modern take on the Colt SAA replica? I believe max pressure is 14000. Thanks, Tim

WITH A 260 JACKETED: 8.0 15,782 PSI 9.0 19,589 9.5 21,669 10.0 23,871 PRESSURE SHOULD BE SLIGHTLY LESS WITH A CAST BULLET

With powder being in shorter supply, I've been using 7.0 of Green Dot under 250 grain casts. It's mild, but accurate in my 45 Colts. May want to give it a try if your run across any Green Dot. -Lee www.singleactions.com

I'm using a kooz cast 255 Keith in my New Vaquero. I went up to 9.5 grains of Herco and Unique but settled on 9.0 for either powder as it seemed to shoot more consistently. OAL is the absolute maximum for my New Vaquero cylinder. (noticably OVER the minimum OAL listed by Alliant for a 250 grain bullet using these powders) These loads are about .1 too long for my ROA 45 Colt R&D cylinder. IIRC, I'm getting between 900-1K fps out of either load. the 9.5 grain loads were both 1K +. No high pressure signs in my gun, in fact I had sooty cases at 8.5 grains.

Judging from what a 260gr jacket bullets pressure is, then I can assume that a 250 gr bullet will be at around Max pressure with 8 grs of Unique. I did notice that with 5, 5.5 and 6 grs of Red Dot (Promo) that my casings were dirty and with the loadings of Unique the cases were substantially cleaner. With the increased pressure the casing forms better to the cylinder wall? Tim
