Got out this morning with my BFR 30-30 & Marlin in the same caliber. I missed a couple right off the bat with the Marlin so decided to concentrate on the BFR. The first Jack I shot at was 74 yards away and sky lighted on the edge of the rim. I got 4 shots at this one as it sat motionless. The first 3 shots were high as I could see the bullet impact on the far side of the ravine about 100 yards away. On the fourth shot I aimed about 6 inches below the rabbit and of course hit about 6 inches low. I missed. The next one flushed at my feet and ran to 84 yards and stopped. One shot and missed. The next one ran to 65 yards and stopped. Again, one shot and a miss. Finally, one jumped out at 19 yards and froze behind a Sage brush. First blood for the BFR. With the Marlin I spied this rabbit running full tilt past me. I tracked it in my scope thinking it was an impossible shot. I decided to try it any way and pulled the cross hairs a bout a foot in front of the rabbit and squeeze off the shot. I heard the bullet hit and saw the Rabbit tumble. A very lucky shot at 83 yards. My BFR carried magnificently in a Hunter holster I purchased.

You are living my retirement, it will consist of daily walks in the dessert and hopefully a trail of ventilated jackrabbits behind me. Sounds like you had a great time, enjoy it.
