so... I've spent a couple hours reading through reviews of optical sights... I honestly haven't had a good reflex sight... haven't had a good optical sight since my old tube type ProPoints... seems for every 10 reviews of a good reflex sight saying how they hold their point of aim, there is one saying it's crap... I have a buddy that has one of the Burris Fast Fires on a 9mm Core & that's his best sight ( maybe he got lucky??? seen several reviews of them not holding their point of aim... I've had a couple wandering reflex sights on my "horribly recoiling" 25 ACP Blackhawk... I mean how can a sight wander on a gun with literally no recoil last one I tried held aim, but had a dead battery every other month, when I went to shoot it... now I'm looking at my most expensive... a Trijicon RMR Reflex Dual-Illuminated Red Dot Sight, with the amber triangle... of course reading the reviews... there are a couple people that can't hold zero... well at least my batteries won't go dead So... what specifically are you using, & what is it mounted on... I can believe that slide mounted sights would be difficult... my buddy just bought one of the new Shepard units & put it on a solid custom mount on his 22 TCM, & the new unit is wandering... this is the 3rd mid price reflex sight he's tried on his TCM... which doesn't kick as much as it does with the 9mm barrel on it...

I'll be following along closely on this one, MagWM. I'm wanting to mount one up on either my 5.5" Bisley FT 44spl or, if I get my 9.5" SRH 44 cutdown to about 4.74"-5", then try it on this. Either will be used for deer this coming season.
I'm looking at the (1st choice) Vortex Venom, (2nd) Ultradot L/T I won't be able to afford the Trijicon RMR anytime soon but, I am think that's about the tops from my research...? Don't know for sure, I've only used an EoTech and it's too big for the Bisley...

I have had excellent results with a Burris FF3 on my Bisley Hunter for a couple seasons with it mounted out on the barrel on a Burris mount. Over 2000 rounds of mostly full power 44 mags and not a flinch out of it. The only reason I changed it out is because I didn't like the look of it out there. I replaced it with an Ultradot 30 which is well established as a very hearty unit. I have about 900 hot 44 mags under this one without a hitch, which is nothing compared to some other people around here. It looks a lot better out there, and I also find it a bit quicker to acquire a target with it. I have recently found a better looking mount for the Burris, but I am going to keep the Ultradot anyways.

The 3 MOA, red dot, Trijicon RMR on a FA mount is doing fine on my FA83 454.

Is it a case of wandering zero or wandering operator? I have problems using a dot if I don't keep my head in the same position (or at least very near to it) each shot. Easier to do with an AR than a handgun though. I can't remember what that phenomenon is called...

Friend of mine has a Leupold Delta Point Pro on his Glock 17. After a couple thousand rounds it's held up fine.

AWP... speaking for myself... I think it's the sights... the last two I've bought has no "click" adjustments... ( who woulda thought you'd need them on a 25 ACP Blackhawk ) my buddy that's having problems getting a medium priced reflex to work on his slide mounted 22 TCM is a new shooter, but he shoots pretty much every weekend... he does fine with his Core with a Burris on it... but the 22 TCM is on it's 3rd sight right now ( a new Shepard ) & it's wandering now also

C-More is the company that started the red dot craze in general. (At least,,, the one that worked!) C-More red dot's have been THE dot optic to use for world champions for a long time. Maybe look at their line? I have C-More, UltraDot & Burris FastFire for my better dots. (I do have some lesser units on plinking 22's.) SO far,,, out of these,,, the Burris is the only one to give me any issues. It was on my FA 83 in 454. Was fine,,, put away,,, and when I went to get it back out. Dead. New batteries,,, no help. Gonna send it to them,,,!

I had a Docter red dot on a 41 mag Bisley Hunter for several seasons. I lost count how many rounds with it, but it was a lot - no problems with it. It now resides on a S&W MP 9mm and is still doing great. Those little sights are robust.
I also have a Trijicon RMR (3 MOA dot) on my Bisley 480 that is working great.

bringing this back to the top, as I tried another cheaper to mid priced dot & am not happy... so looks like I'm going to have to spend more money to be satisfied??? right now I'm looking at the Leupold Pro, which if I'm reading right, offers an optional adjustable rear sight that can be fitted to the reflex, so you can co witness your sights, & still shoot it if the battery's dead or the lighting conditions are too bright www.midwayusa.com/product/126047/leupold-deltapoint-pro-rear-iron-sight-matte

The Leupold Deltapoint Pro is an excellent sight; I've had several and all have worked perfectly.

Probably no one on the forum shoots more heavy loads than Max & he swears by the Ultra Dots. I've had 2 of them & they held up well although I didn't like them, not because they didn't work but because I'm always hunting deer in the brush & it was tough picking them out. That would have been the problem with any Dot sight. I've also heard good things about the Leupold Dot sights. For now when I use optics it has to be a regular Leupold or Burris scope, usually a 4X.

I use a Trijicon RMR on a M83 FA in 454 Casull. Works like a charm. There are surely other acceptable models but I'd doubt if the good ones come cheap. After a bit of research, I decided to buy once, cry once.
