I hunted brown bear in SE Alaska last spring, twelve days on a ten day hunt, and came home empty. Poor weather, my 9" minimum and heavily rubbed bears were it. Next spring I will head to Kodiak to give it another go. And, yeah, it is hunting up there though I have had the same with my 20+ years of DIY elk trips to Leadville Colorado and moose/elk/mountain caribou in Northern BC or black and grizzly in SE BC. All wonderful trips. Did you draw for this spring? As in next week? Or are you planning on a registration hunt next April if you don't draw? And yup.... it's hunting alright!

Same rifle, a tweaked (barrel set back, chamber recut and barrel fluted) SS M70 375 H&H bedded in a Brown stock. Fairly lightweight. The 270 gr Barnes TSX's goes 2700 fps and an easy inch and a half at a hundred. Scope is now a 2-7 Leupold.

I saw some of those Kodiak bears up close and personal this past November.
