A Yankee assault rifle! But seriously, years ago I read a gunrag article about the demonstration of the Spencer to Abraham Lincloln. As I recall, Lincoln actually shot a seven round group on a tree trunk and was favorably impressed. The article had a photograph of the chunk of tree that was preserved for posterity. I have to credit Lincloln for demonstrating that level of interest in the weapons to be issued to his troops. Imagine a firing range in back of the White House today!

S & S firearms in NY make a drop in centerfire breech block for the spencer so u can actually shoot it

I think Star-Line makes centerfire brass for the 56-50.

I had one that was #563 in 56-52...I was able to bring it to life with a center fire action/block conversion from Buffalo Trading in Idaho....FYI Starline brass will not work in the old rifles,The rim is not thick enough for extraction...Buffalo Trading has 50-70 brass cut down and dies from 4-d to do loading...5744 works great in them...they are a hoot to shoot...
