as I get my "back up" ammo purchased... I'm starting to look at filling the bullet cabinet...
just curious if any of you guys that load for the same caliber in long action & short action cartridges use the same bullet, or a heavier bullet in the longer cartridge... I'm sure it depends on what you're using the cartridges for... but I have a tendency to load heavier bullets in long action cartridges... ( thinking rifle here, but I suppose the same question works for 38 Special, 357 Magnum, & 357 Maximum )
for example, at my house currently... 17 fireball gets 20 grain bullets, & 17 Remington gets 25 grain bullets 6.8 SPC generally gets 115 or 130 grain bullets, while the 270 gets 150's... 7 X 57 gets 139's while 7mm magnum gets heavier bullets... .308 gets 150 - 160, while 30-06 gets 180's ( just for example )
or do you guys look for higher velocity from a long action, than from the short action, & use the same bullet???
I've got a little while before I get to culling all my odd weight bullets, & replacing them with one of a couple standard weights... ( actually not looking forward to boxing up & hauling a box of lead to the one gun show I attend... but better to sell the odd ducks to make money for something I'll actually use...

I'm with you - 180s only go in 357s, not a 38 special. Also the 308 only goes to 165 where the 30-06 keeps going. Not intended as hard rule others should agree with, just personal habit.
