That bullet looks real nice.
What about the old favorite... A hollow base wad-cutter loaded backwards?
It's all about the meplat "smack" & cutting the largest diameter hole as possible.

Also have you tried badman bullets? They have the 130 grain for having your kind of fun and you can load them several different ways. They also come in the Polymer coating similar to HY-Tek

Looking for about 850 fps loads. Of course accuracy coming ahead of velocity. Just checked out Badman. Like the looks of their SWC. Then I see 230 grains? A 230 grain wadcutter in a .38 special?! The bullet looks like a SAECO 348 DEWC. It features a crimp groove at each end, plus both ends are beveled to allow flush seating with either the sprue end or the finished end forward. Since mose casting flaws (air bubbles) are at the sprue end, the DEWC allows you to load the bullet sprue forward to minimize the effects of any sprue end imbalance to improve accuracy a mite.

The DE wadcutter is much easier to load. There is another solid body version you will see with a button nose. When loading you have to look at the button nose and hollow base wadcutters to make sure they are turned the way you want. The DE WCs are the same both ways. That backward loaded HB WC thing is just a pop gun load. When I played with them in the 70 I found them to key hole up close. Can't load them warm at all because of the skirt of the bullet.

Matt's sells a button wadcutter. I read Jim Cirillo's use of the turned up HB wadcutter back in the late 60's and early 70's. He reported the same results on key holing but found even with the problems they were much more effective than the department issued round nose .38. |
