Found one at the LGS today topped with a vx2 2-7x. Had to put it on layaway. Anyone have a good carbine load for the 270? I shoot 130s over RL22 in my m77 and I'm sure this one will shoot that load great. But with the shorter barrel, I'm wondering if a different bullet weight would be more better?

You may find a different powder makes more difference than the bullet. Probably the same twist being both are Rugers, standard in .270 is 1 in 10. I would try your regular load and if you find it being nosier or less accurate, doubtful really, then you might consider a faster powder like 4350 or even faster. 4064 works well, perhaps R15 or Varget. Lots of choices. Good luck.

Thanks for the input. I really hadn't thought much about a faster powder. I'll give that a whirl in the spring if my standard load doesn't work as well as it does in the M77.

I would go with a soft bullet like a Sierra and slightly fasterpowder loke IMR4350 or ReLoader 19

I have some varget. May try that. Never loaded anything but RL22 for my 270.

Tried 44.8 grains of Varget underneath a Hornady 130 today in my 77. I was impressed with accuracy and the reduced recoil. Shoots to nearly the same point if impact as my RL22 load. Can't wait to try it out in the Number 1. This time next month I'll have it in my hands.

The number 1 came home the other day. I'm impressed with the Varget load in the little rifle. What an elegant weapon. I'm a fan. Pics to follow soon.
