I'm looking at a very nice full size H&K USP .40. But I have very little hands on experience with these pistols. A friend has two H&K something or other in 9mm. He swears by them. So anyone here own one of these USP's in a .40? Speak up.

I had a USP compact in .40 years ago when the Federal Flight Deck Officer thing was first starting with pilots. It was varient 7? I can't remember but there were several variants of trigger and such. The one for the FFDO was the LE model and the trigger was crazy long and crazy heavy. Off the scales heavy. I never could shoot the thing worth a darn and I shot a G21 and a 1911 very well at that time. Shoot one first and find the trigger variant you want. I'm sure it was match grade this or that, but as with the Freedom Arms 97... None of that matters very much if "I"can shoot it very well.

I had no idea of all the different variants. The one I'm looking at is a DA/SA V1 full size. The DA trigger is probably around 10# but very smooth. The SA trigger is nice and crisp AFTER the take up, which I'm not to crazy about but I'm fairly used to that now days. I don't have a .40 so I thought maybe this one would be a good one to start with. Ain't made up my mind yet.

Paul I don't really know much about the H&K's but was wondering what your main purpose will be for this fun & the 40S&W? Range work, SD, HD? Just trying to get an idea what you will be using for. Ray

Ray Hello Ray, It would have been for range and eventually a carry gun if it agreed with me but a funny thing happened on the way to the forum. I'd been on the lookout for a belly gun in .38 for a while now. Saw plenty of 1 7/8"-2" barreled revolvers but I don't like 'em that short. I wanted at least 3". Got on the Ruger forum classifieds this morning and there was an SP101 3" barrel .38. Just so happens that I have done business before with the fella selling it and he lives in my neck of the woods here in Florida. So after some picture trading and text messages we made a trade deal that made both of us happy. I'll post up some pictures in the Double Action sub forum when I get time. Therefore the H&K will just wait till another day as my trade fodder went to the Ruger. That's ok though, I'm really diggin' this little Ruger.

Kool.. Congrats to you...Sounds like it was your day I rented one of the 3" SP-101 357's a few years back. I thought it was a nice little gun and, imo handled factory 357 very well. I've come close to buying one a few times but I've just never warmed up to the 38/357...? I know it's a good cartridge but I just don't have a use for it. I've always been in the mindset that, If the 357Mag/38Spl can get it done, than the 44Mag/44Spl can get it done as good or better Yep, you see now, I'm one of those guys... Hehehee Love them 44's! BigBore44 Hmmm...?? Let's see here,,, bigbore38 Doesn't even sound good to me. LOL

That's ok Ray. You can be one of those guys all you want. I won't judge you. I read Jim Cirrilo's book a while back and the things he did with a .38 special wadcutter was very impressive. I grabbed this .38 instead of a .357 because in a gun this size I wouldn't shoot .357's out of it anyway. I like your .44's too. I've got a couple. ;-)

I agree about the 38 & 357. I had a real nice 6" GP-100 and it fit me like a glove. Still love the feel of the grip on these better'n most any other revolver. That's one reason I was ecstatic when I heard about the new 3" GP-44. It'll be my 1st revolver I'm planning on full time using for CCW. I trust the caliber and know it's gonna feel Awesome in the hand. Love the SRH for the same reasons, they just feel Right to me. Wow!!! I'm glad you started this thread Paul because (I) we're drifting it pretty good Speaking of under appreciated caliber's. I mentioned not warming up to the 38/357 but yet I really like the 327!..!.?? ...Crazy am I not!? Now I'd Really like to have a 3" SP-101 in 327FM!!! Oh yeah. BB44

Lol, I'm the same way with the 32's. I don't have any but I'm in the same want bracket with the double action 32's.

I had an HK USP 9 around 2000. I really liked how it felt in hand but it's kinda wide if you want to CC it. I was a pretty good shot but honestly my target had holes everywhere, that was all in SA too. I sold it two weeks later and took a big hit. I'm not trying to discourage you I'm just telling you my experience.
They have a decent reputation so maybe I just got a bad one. If I were to get another HK right now it would be the P30 (not the L).
