Any of you guys have one or several? I understand there are Stevens collectors out there. I have one with a 28" Heavy Round barrel. Serial number matches the action/receiver. It seems most were half octagon. Bluing is nice. Some surface rust spots but no pitting. Bore is excellent. CC colors still on the frame, wood is nice. Has a Lyman front sight that flips up like a peep sight. Rear sight is on the barrel. I've cleaned it up and it looks pretty darn good actually. But, it's one of those guns I'll never shoot. I'm thinking of passing it on and going towards a mid-frame 45 Colt of some flavor. Any info appreciated. Serial number is 128XX. From what I can ascertain, I've got a pretty decent falling block 44 1/2 25.20.

sounds like you've got a nice rifle... in fact, I've always wanted one ( I do love my singe shot centerfires )... I'm not enough of a Stevens collector to tell you what it's worth... but sounds like the price aught to be towards the higher end of the scale by your description

I think Arms List is going to have more information and a closer price to reality than the over inflated Gunbroker. Sounds very much like a falling block. From what I have learned in the last 2 days is the ammo is different also. Charles

Those actions are highly sought after for custom guns.

Get yourself a 25-20 revolver and your set. Very cool looking.

if it were mine... I'd probably keep it as the unique single shot cartridge, because the barrel sounds like it's in good shape... but setting it back & rechambering for the 25-20 handgun round would be an interesting option, if you could keep all the original stampings on the barrel

If good barrel, I'd definitely buy some brass and dies, then leave it as is. Bertram had brass for it.

I've been spending some time over at www.assra.com forums. Seems like a good bunch over there. Like here but dedicated to single shot rifles. This gun is one worth keeping the way it is and loading and shooting it for what it was designed for. If I remember right that's a 65-75 gr cast with the twist of this barrel. One problem I have is that I can't see the front bead with my eyes! TeenieTiny lyman sight.

So... it sounds like you're thinking about keeping it... from the pictures it looks like it would command top dollar ( not saying I could afford it... but she sure looks nice to me )

Why not just get another barrel? This is a CPA Stevens 44 1/2, one action, three barrels and two different stocks. 38-55 Winchester, 30-40 Krag and 218 Mashburn Bee.
