Who here has a "modern" revolver that they only use BP with ? With a few 44spec's here now, been thinking of the NM Vaq Sheriff 44spec that has the polished SS finish. It cleans up relatively easy. Who besides Blacke Dawge sells bullets ready made for BP use ? Why do bullets meant for BP use need to be softer if veloes can be 800-900 FPS ? Is it to overcome fit issues ? A softer lube makes sense anyway. Dale53, ya out there ? Gotta be more than few folks here still play with BP, the SASS/CAs shooters anyway. The first batch I ran I used the FFG on hand for a .54cal rifle. Then went and bought a lb of FFFG. Definitely better performance though no chrono here for proof.

most of the smokeless powder lubes say they are OK for shorter barrels... so I would suspect most would be OK for pistol...

In a pinch, just for the heck of it I've used all kinds of bullets. This though only for a cylinder or two of fun. I have some of Missourri's 340gr .476 bullets holding back a big pile of FFFG and do they ever put out a cloud and smell wondrous ! Just have wondered, if the bullets really need to be that specific to BP usage. If I decide to primarily use BP with that Vaquero I'll be fussier with finding "proper" components. So, anyone else besides Blacke Dawge market made for BP bullets in .44 ?

Oh. Do have the Blacke Dawge bullets here in 38/357 and 44. A box of each, some already in 44spec cases. Let's see, 205gr RNFP.

I've played with this in 45 and 44, and found that the smokeless lubes (and bullets designed with smokeless in mind, with shallow lube grooves and not many of them) don't do a very good job of preventing fouling, mainly because they are too hard (like candle hard) and there's not much of it at all. You want lots of soft, sticky non-petrol based lube.
I've de-lubed some commercial cast bullets and then pan lubed them with a home concoction of beeswax, tallow, and Crisco. Huge pain in the butt, but seemed to work well enough. A bullet design with a deeper lube groove and more of them would be better.

Thanks. Ok, have found Chey-Cast bullets. They have bullets for BP use. Theirs "hard cast" but with BP friendly lube. The typical 200-210gr RNFP type many make yet due to SASS/CAS. See they size only up to .430. My Ruger's run more like .431 and the Marlin bigger yet. The new M69 a tighter .429. Hmmnnn. A box to try at .430 maybe.

Thanks ! I'd not seen these before. See they are sized for 44-40 or older 44's. My NM Vaquero Sheriffs cylinder mouths run .431 though. Guess it'd be worth a call though. I'll add them to favorites for later shopping.
