It's been a long time since I've enjoyed the thrill of the hunt so this adventure got my caveman juices flowing. This was not a game animal hunt. This was an age old hunt that meant survival. Kill or be killed! Earlier that morning before daylight I walked out the front door to let Sarge, our Australian Shepard, enjoy his morning toilet. Upon opening the door I caught a glimpse of my quarry. So did Sarge and the chase was on. The subject of the chase high tailed it to the woods making good his escape. I knew then that this monster had to be taken. It was just like the movie "The Ghost and the Darkness". I sat all afternoon waiting for the monster to give me one chance. Just when I was about to call it a day I heard my wife holler as she went out on the front porch. "Paul, come here! Hurry up!" I knew by the tone of her caterwauling that the game was afoot! Sarge made a dash for the front door and before I could get there with my pistol good ole Sarge had him pinned. It was a furious battle between two magnificent animals, one wild from the demands of survival in the tropical jungle and the other a civil obedient companion with the instinct to protect his human pack from just such dangers! When I made it to the scene my quarry looked lifeless and Sarge came to my side seeming to revel in his conquest. But I knew better than to trust this oft played trick. Standing a safe distance from the beast so there was little chance of being mauled by the wounded animal, I carefully raised my Browning Hi Power, took a bead on the beasts head as I knew that was the only shot that would surely end the danger and carefully squeezed the trigger. The mighty Hi Power roared and sent the Sig Sauer 124 grain hollow point to it's destination. The beast seemed to fight the inevitable but in the end succumbed to the well placed shot. It was an adventure that will be remembered the rest of my life! Plus Gary the cat won't have to worry 'bout that sum bitch eating up all his food every night!!

I shot a monster beast of the same, a couple weeks back... I hate those cat-rat looking things... I at least went in with enough gun... my 480 Alaskan That's right, I remember reading your post. Yes, I was worried about my choice of weapon at first. Just shows that shot placement plays a key role in taking such beasts with a questionable seemingly under powered round. I have to credit the guide that took down that bear with his 9mm a few months back as my inspiration. It was his success that gave me the confidence to grab the Hi Power. Although it wasn't stoked with Buffalo Bore I felt confident enough in my shooting skills and calm demeanor that I could take this beast out and end our nightmare.

Good shootin, Paul!!! Glad you were able to get the drop on him before he Got to You!... It could have turned out a Whole LOT Worse if he'd have turned the tables on'ya!!!! .... You could'a been mauled, trampled, Torn to Shreds or even Killed and EATEN!!! You done good!!! Your choice of sidearm & caliber is a bit light but,you made it work. Next time I hope your carryin something more appropriate and fitting to the task like, sumthin startin with a 4, such as a: 44 Mag, 45LC, 454, 45-70, 480, 475 or BIGGER!!!! ... ... Glad you made it out ALIVE!!!! BigBore44
