Looking for average throat dia. On 44 mag. For 629? *** trm.... no idea, the average exit hole diameter for a Model 629 chamber. Round the time of the revolver’s introduction in 1980, Smith & Wesson handed me one for a performance. According to S&W, the first one hundred M-629s were fitted with serated combat triggers[/u], a practice immediately thereafter dropped. This awarded pistol is one of those. If memory may suffice, I recall exit holes of .432 or .433-inch, probably more like .432". This revolver with 6-inch barrel delivered rather extreme accuracy with any sensible bullet. Sensible bullets specifically include the record setting Sierra 240 JHC and Federal’s #44A 240 JHP. Two or three thousandths over bullet diameter in no way hurts accuracy in a .44 with proper bore, forcing cone, and chamber-to-bore alignment. .432-inch is a perfectly desirable throat diameter for a .44 Magnum. As a rule, neither Smith & Wesson nor Ruger wandered off the beaten path in .44 throat diameters. David Bradshaw

There is no real average. I've owned guns that ranged from .429 to .434. I'd suggest slugging your throats to be certain.

For another data point my 629-3 runs 0.430". Looks like you probably need to measure your own.

TRM, there's no telling what they are without measuring them correctly. If you would like, you can pull the cylinder off the gun and mail it to me along with return postage/ insurance. I will measure your cylinder with pin gauges and send it back.

When I was reaming them I told people to stop sending them because they were usually close enough to .430 that the .430 reamer wouldn't do a clean job.
