There must be something wrong with me...
I am a 1911 guy...they are my favorite guns... If I had one gun left it would be a some 1911 with a .22 Conversion Unit... There are 20 1911s in the safe. Have carried a 1911 EVERY day since 1980...and yet the thought of spending $2K let a lone $4K for a 1911 to me is absurd!!!
...and yet I have 4 Freedom Arms, had two others, one custom Gary Reeder and a custom Clements that are all worth over $2K. I rarely carry one, they do go hunting and get shot long range but in reality these are toys but think nothing of plunking down $2200 for a .22 Freedom Arms.

Bob LOL, I don't think there's anything wrong with you. I have felt the same way. I've read about and gone crazy over custom single and double action revolvers for years. Never had a second thought about the high cost of them but paying that kind of dough for a pistol just seemed ridiculous. I actually nailed down my predjudious to years of being taught that a semi automatic pistol can only be made so accurate. The tolerances required for reliable function would not allow a semi auto anything better than minute of bad guy accuracy past 50 feet. I have learned that these custom and semi custom pistols today are only semi auto pistols in appearance. The guts and tolerances of fit are nothing like the semi autos of yesteryear. CNC machines and advanced technology have given today's custom auto pistol wrench's an advantage that guys like Swenson could only dream of. So, to make a long post a bit longer, I have come to accept these custom autos with the same appreciation that I do the custom revolvers.

So, to make a long post a bit longer, I have come to accept these custom autos with the same appreciation that I do the custom revolvers. I appreciate the kind words but unfortunately that isn't what I see... In DA revolvers, of which I have 50 or more, the only thing that is needed is well fitting grips, a smooth DA trigger job and a good set of sights... Other than that all my DAs are bone stock. As to 1911s, the ones I own date from 1951 to 2016. Because most are .38 Super they have had properly headspaced barrels put in them and a decent trigger job...that is it. My first two, a 1969 GM and a 1952 Commander would shot 36" and 18" groups at 50 yards. One trip to the gunsmith and one BarSto barrel later the groups with the same box of ammo had shrank to 3" and 3.5" respectively...with no compromise as to reliability. The 10mms I bought earlier this year have been amazing. The $1300 PARA dumped a whole magazine into a gallon jug standing at 50 yards... A $900 Kimber 5 hits on a 10" gong and the three more on a 8" gong at 100 yards.. A $450 RAI Combat Commander is as accurate as any 1911 I own... To me the high dollar 1911s are like putting makeup on an already beautiful girl, it enhances the looks but not the function... Single Actions however are like blank pieces of canvas ready for an artists brush... I only have two custom SAs but I look at all the really beautiful guns posted here and can appreciate both their beauty and their increased functionality...something I do not see in custom DAs or semis.... ...and yet when it comes down to function/need, the SA would be the first to be eliminated over the DA or 1911...that is where I consider I have "the problem".... I have a 10mm... does that qualify me to chase the rabbit down the "off topic hole" I have a hard time paying over $1000.00 for any gun... I'm definitely a revolver guy... & have some semi autos & revolvers that may be worth more than $1,000.00 today, but none that I paid that much for, when I bought them... I have an easier time spending that money on a nice wood bolt action rifle, or an old or replica single shot rifle, & then spend the same on a scope to mount on it, than I do any hand gun... don't know... but maybe I rationalize, that the rifle is "bigger" than the handgun... I'm not much of a shotgun guy, my main collection there ( 5 ) are double barrel side by sides with exposed hammers, for CAS shooting... but I do understand that the artist dabble there also, & there are plenty of people that spend that money on Shotguns...

Groo here You called? ?? I love 10mm, got a DW C-bob, a custom 1911 Wide body. and just got a G-40. The thing with customs is how they shoot, not just how they look. You can pay for one or the other BUT both is $$$$$$$$$$$$!!! I have a Lady Hawk [9mm] that is almost unreal, Quarter groups at 7yds, and the fit/finish is amazing. But a Good Glock, 1911,Browning etc will shoot almost as well, cost 1/3 as much and you will not be afraid to take it into the woods!
