Anybody own/shoot one of the new(er) Smith 66s?
Looking at photos they're a baby brother for the M69.
Thanks

That was the idea I had as well. The new 66 showed up with a canted front sight and that's tough to do with a shrouded barrel. Packed it up and sent it in to Smith, while it's been there it went to the custom shop for a trigger job and from the lady I spoke with day before yesterday, the 66 should be in my hands next week some time. I'll post back when it comes in.

66 came home today and I have to say that I am well pleased with the repair and the custom shop work. They changed the shroud on the gun and now the front sight is dead straight and the roll mark on this shroud is perfect as opposed to the other one which was light in spots. Trigger work is spot on and exactly the way I think they should come fron the factory.
Won't get to shoot it until next week but if it shoots as good as it did before then She'll be a keeper.

my S&W 66 was one of the best DA guns I had but I didn't realize how good it was till I traded it, big mistake. the 66 may be what the K frame was always suppose to be. here it is with it's Redhawk big brother.

Trigger job from the custom shop feels outstanding, very smooth and much lighter. Shooting it tonight and really looking forward to it. Cost off the top of my head I want to say was like $160 and I feel like it was money well spent.

Cost off the top of my head I want to say was like $160 and I feel like it was money well spent. *** chieftjs.... last M-66 purchased cost $160. Fine revolver. Smith & Wesson worked it over, changing the hammer, doing anew gas ring, dovetailing and drilling front sight for the red ramp, tightening carry-up. Certainly not contemporary production, just a stainless version of the M-19. Carbon steel was used for forging hammer and trigger, and for stainless guns these parts were flash chromed. One does not stone the very thin case hardening, lest single action letoff deteriorate----a fugitive trigger job guaranteed to kick the trigger forward in single action, and catch the double action fly on the trigger. Today's hammer & trigger may be injection molded from powdered metal and through-hardened----if so and then proven via cases of ammunition, the new parts may be better than the old school hammer & trigger. Truth told, I'd have never bought a new production Smith if the folks here hadn't talked up the Model 69 so much. After so many glowing comments I just had to try one and found them to be right as the M69 is a very good gun. The great luck with the 69 told me I should try out the same gun in my other favorite round so I jumped on a 66. Wouldn't we all be in heaven if we could buy a new Smith 66 for $160 and have it meet the old quality standards? I'd have one whale of a collection to be certain.

Got to shoot the new 66 tonight and I think we're going to get along just fine. Looking forward to working up a good load for it and going from there.

I've often thought it sure would be nice to go to "back then" but making today's wages. I'd need a bigger garage as well as a bigger safe... Someone one the S&W Forum started a thread along the lines of "It's 1978 and you walk into a shop with new S&W and Colt .357s, which do you buy?" I though the best answer was "None. I was only 12 in 1978"

I have weaknesses! Went to Buds web site and under the Qualified Professional program they were offering the 66 for $576 with free shipping. One will be coming to my local dealer in 10 days or so.
