One to reserve a spot with Jim Stroh to convert an early S&W M29-2 to 45 Colt. I have an 8 3/8" 45 Colt barrel that will be cut to 5" and Taylor throated. Cylinder tightly rechambered, his slick interchangeable from sight similar to the one he does for Ruger SA's but in the original S&W style and setting all of the other dimensions right with a high polish blue like the early guns had.
The second check went to Keith Brown for a pair of finely checkered Roper grips in exhibition grade French walnut. His work is incredible.
I leave Texas tomorrow after a 9 day stay heading back to the Middle East but return on Thanksgiving day for a month through Christmas. I'll send the gun to Jim then and expect by summer the perfect S&W 45 Colt with a beautiful set of grips. It will be my first custom DA and the wait is already killing me...

Boxhead, I cant wait to see it. The 29 to 45 Colt conversion is one I have thought about for a long time. It makes a great gun into a better gun.

Could you expand on "Taylor throating"? Pete From Alpha Precision's website: "Taylor Throating is offered in .22, .32, .357/.38, .40, .41, .44, .45, and .475 calibers. Essentially, the barrel throat is lengthened one and one half to two calibers, and enlarged to slightly over groove diameter. The throat serves as the throat in a rifle barrel, enabling the bullet to become perfectly aligned with the bore before engaging the rifling. The "choking" effect present from tightening the barrel into the frame is removed as well. The rifling leade is a very gentle 1 ½ degrees. On average, when tested before and after using a Ransom Rest, 50 yard groups have been reduced 40 to 50%." In some cases, the poor man's alternative to line-boring. They are not mechanically alike at all, but Taylor throating can seem to improve accuracy for a nominal sum of $$. Max.

In my mind (and Mr. Stroh's I believe as he doesn't offer it) line boring an S&W double action gun is a non-starter as it is quite difficult (read $$$) to get the full, "dead nuts" tight, lockup that one can comparitively easily get with a single action that line boring really requires.
