Our friend Mark Hampton has been busy making more memories lately. I'll let him fill us in on the details of his successful Shiras moose hunt! Congratulations Mark!

That is a real dream hunt for me, been trying to draw a tag here in Colorado for 10 years and one of these years I will get the tag and hunt with a handgun for a bull like this one. Good going Mr. Hampton...

Outstanding, Mark! That's a beauty! I really like that hand cannon, as well. It wouldn't happen be chambered in .338 Federal, would it? Looking forward to the details.

Thanks for the kind words! And yes -- that would be a 338 Fed. Ammo was factory Federal with Nosler's 180 gr. AB. One shot from 50 yards. I probably should have passed this bull and looked for something bigger. But after my run of bad luck this year -- I was pretty quick to drop the hammer even on the first evening. Cheers

Nice job!
Remember... "If you'd shoot him on the last day you better shoot him on the first day".

bushog, well said. That came back to haunt me on my moose hunt. Twice I passed on a bull that would go about 46" because he was in velvet & I thought I could find him later. Didn't happen & I ended up shooting a smaller bull. I have probably 20 minutes of video of the bigger bull within 20-25 yds. Mark, great job on your bull with the 338 Federal. Moose are great eating if you shoot them early in oct.

Good job and nice moose. The fun really starts after he's down. Especially if you're doing a solo hunt.

Nice! I've shot lots of moose and always shoot the first one I can. What a cannon. Way to go.

I'd be proud to hang that head on a wall shot with a rifle let alone a handgun(in this case handcannon).
Nice going...Bob
