Has anyone here tried light bullets in a 500 Linebaugh or 50 special? Something in the 300-340gr weights? If so how did it do? We are talking about a paper punching, rock busting, plinker bullet that still has some accuracy to it.
Inquiring minds want to know...

Somebody around here had a thread/pics of a boolit/mould that I think was about 325-350gr that looked like an SWC with hardly any nose to it. Most of the boolit was in the case. I think it was a custom mould. But I can't for the life of me find the thread.

Seems like someone linked me to a lite 480 bullet, and another gent sent link as to how to set a gas check into a heavy bullet mold to make a full wadcutter, lite bullet from that mold. the gas check cut of lead flow to "nose".

I fired 350gr WFN, out of my 500max just to see if I could make a good 44mag/45colt equivalent load. A 350 at 1200-1300, It proved accurate at 50yds, but seemed a waste of powder to me considering what I really gained over a 340gr 45 colt at the same velocity.

Gary Reeder is an advocate of the lighter bullets. His loading data for his 510GNR, a shortened 500L, lists 350 grain bullet loads. 296, H4227, and AA1680, 30-36 grains, and 1100-1161 FPS.

OK guys these bullets are going in a Bowen Redhawk 50sp, think of it as a overgrown 45acp in 51 caliber. The sectional density of even a 300gr bullet is greater than a 250gr 44 cal bullet and you can drop a 45acp down to 165-185gr cast bullets for paper punching. I thought is what would happen if we can a 300gr bullet at 800fps to punch holes in paper and ring a gong? We figure the bullet will destabilize at some point but if that could be beyond say 50 yards it would be fine...

Fowler,
I tried some 350 WFN-GC Cast Performance in my 500 Linebaugh and they did very well.
10.0 Titegroup / WLP / Starline brass ran 980 f/s. Nice accuracy.
Good shooting.
