I have never reloaded 9mm. Just didnt see the.point with ammo.so cheap. Now I do because I anticipate shooting a lot more 9mm. I have favorite powders for .45ACP, .45 Colt, .41 &.44 mag, .32 H&R, .480, etc, etc. Most have a unique favorite powder. Since I have gotten tons of advice here on all those others I thought I would ask about 9mm too. I am planning on loading 124gr & 147gr plated bullets - not cast lead. These are strictly practice loads. What is your favorite powder for target level loads? Many thanks!

I use titegroup for 9mm, 38 super, 40sw, and 45acp. I've shot competitive action pistol and steel matches for the last 20 yrs, all with Titegroup with excellent and consistent results, both in accuracy and velocity.

Hello, I prefer Powder Pistol for my 9mm hand loads. I get small groups, small extreme spreads and it meters great. Only down side worth mentioning is it feels like it heats up the gun fast. I have also had acceptable results with AA #7 and CFE Pistol.
CFE seems to burn a good bit cooler than PP. That feeling is certainly not scientific, however, I can consistently shoot more rounds before my barrel is uncomfortable. Unique can do well too and with a variety of weights from 115 to 158. The only real caveat with unique is it's larger flake size gives the uniformity advantage to PP, CFE and #7
Good Luck! ~Justin

Titegroup has always been a very popular powder in 9mm, I use Winchester 231 & its worked very well for me as has Unique. Remember HP38 is the same as W231 & is usually a couple bucks cheaper off the shelf.

Unique, Power Pistol, 231/HP38 are what I use most.

I've been using 231 for a long time and it's a great powder for target loads. I like VV3n37 for full power loads.
I was using Blue Dot for some time; just know the flash at dusk is really bright.

My favorite powder for the 9mm is Blue Dot. I've been using it for years with outstanding results. In my experience, the slower powders seem to give better funtioning in everything from my 100 year old lugers to modern guns like Sig and Glock. It does give a bit of muzzle flash, but that is offset by its' accuracy. Plus, there is no way you are going to be able to double charge a case.... It is basically, 100% loading density. Accurate Number 5 and 7 would also be good choices.
Here is one very important thing I have learned over a lot of years, and that is for the 9mm overall loaded length is VERY important. Ammo loaded towards longer overall loaded length functions more reliably and tends to be more accurate. Many loading manuals show unreasonable short overall length for some of their loads. The best reliability and accuracy seems to come with bullets seated out towards the longest length possible. This requires a bit of trial and error to see what works best in your guns. With 115 grain bullets, I load to 1.13" - 1.14" OAL with the Remington JHP bullets I use, and 1.17" overall loaded length with the 115 grain FMJ bullets.

I'm thinking the powder measure on my 550 set up for 9mm is full of AA #5...

Right now I'm using #7...for 124g and some NOE hp's that run about 135g with my alloy. I have some titegroup that I will dip into before long..haven't tried it in a 9. I despise loading them itty-bitty bullets, but since I have acquired a CZ and XDm in that caliber.....

WSF has been my favorite for heavier 9mm bullets. I use a lot of it with 147 Hornady JHPs, and any 124 gr bulk bullet I can get my hands on.

Thanks everyone. Titegroup is my go to powder for .45 acp target loads. Accurate in every 1911 I have ever used it in. Bigbrowndog do you use it for heavier 9mm bullets too?

I shoot 147-150gr bullets in my 9mm's.
My chrono data shows 3.3gr with fmj rn bullet loaded to 1.165-1.17 gives me 830-840fps. You can load longer if you're going to use a 1911 platform exclusively. I use mine in 1911, 2011, and Glock so the load is as long as the Glock will allow and still feed smoothly thru the mag.
If you have any other questions do not hesitate to notify me.

i would have to say hodgdon longshot is my favorite 9mm powder. hs-6 used to be the powder, although dirty, then I had trouble finding it and switched to longshot. I have found longshot to be a pretty good all around powder too
