F3, I know you are up there in the wilds of Montana but no phone & no camera, come on! That's some of the most beautiful country in America & most here don't have a clue what that country looks like, you sure need to get it on camera & share it. An old friend taught me years ago, the only thing you take home are the memories so you have to take pictures, that's the only thing you'll pass on when you're my age.

We're on the same page, stay safe. Many reports from bird hunters of their dogs embroiled in fights with coyotes. Bears not the only threat. I run beagles on cottontails and snowshoe hares. I always pack a handgun whether or not we are hunting just for that reason, feral dogs and coyotes.

Oh, also have seen a story or two from Minn, the UP, about bird dogs being killed by wolves. I mentioned the choosing of buck or slug, per state regs.. Some states are fussy about you not having anything on you that might be used to kill deer, poaching concerns. My other concern was a little Spanish made SxS 20 that I decided might not like slugs, so always chose buckshot. In 20ga #3 buck is the common available choice. Stay safe folks.
