I have been waiting for Brian P. to do the 41spl article since he mentioned it last year, now I see part 1 is here but it was short and not really what I had hoped for, I hope part 2 is better and has much more load data, but it boggles my mind that we make or shoot "specials" with max loads/heavy weight bullets, etc That's what the magnums are for, it seems a lot of articles read are about max loading 41spl, 44spl, is it just me I believe a "special" should be what it is supposed to be, lighter weight bullets with comfortable loads for accurate shooting, etc. don't get me wrong I spent most of my life looking for max max plus loads and heavy for caliber bullets that would stabilize and vaporize a Kodiak. But I didn't look at "specials " to accomplish this, my start loads were max loads! maybe my exception was 38 with 173 Keith hardcast swc's loaded hot, it was the only load to ever make the base pin pop out of my OM BH. Maybe I'm just getting old

I agree with you. My much packed 44spec Bulldog is in my vest pocket right now. Have often thought it would make a better 41 spec.. What little 41 spec load data I've seen is pretty much the same as 44spec data. I wonder, is it an American thing ? Seems like 5 minutes after holding something in our hand, we want more outta it. That's not always a bad thing, but..

I am sure Brian's next article will have loads from mild to semi-wild. I am with you guys, save the big bangs for the Magnums. I even use my 41 Special rounds in my Magnum guns because I like to shoot those too. Two Bowen 41 Special conversions on OMBH's and several Ruger and S&W 41 Mags.

I feel a little better, I guess I'm not alone I have 175gr Hard cast lead HP's, 170 gr Sierra's,etc I would love to get "special" load data for most of it is 215/220/230. I know I say Mr. Taffins, I think had a little for 200gr lead and another article had a load for some type of 190 lead bullet I never heard of. But the powder it used I don't out of 3 dozen different rounds I re load for, so doesn't make sense to buy it for 1 load. I need some variety.

I don't own either a 41 Magnum or a Special ( though my buddy built a cartridge conversion 60 Army in 41 Special... that I might try & talk him out of... in a while, after he shoots it enough )... but agree with the concept that the special should not try to equal the magnums... in fact on magnum revolvers, I often try to load "special" pressure cartridges in the longer cases, to eliminate the carbon ring fowling... My custom S&W 610 can chamber 40 S&W, 10 MM, & 10 MM Magnum... but I almost never shoot the 40 S&W in that gun... bullet jump from the shorter case, & the addition of something like Trailboss gives me 40 S&W level loads in the full length magnum cases... the only cartridges I can think of, where I might try to load "hotter" is if I'm trying to pack more in a smaller gun, or in the case of my 25 ACP revolver, where I'm using the cartridge in a gun it was not designed for... otherwise I can always move up to the next size cartridge or gun...
