So I call Shenanigans here. Smiths are very strong, but my understanding is Ruger's are in fact stronger and can handle hotter loads. Interested in everyone's thoughts here. From what I read on John Linebaugh's webpage and from discussions with JRH, Bowen, and Reeder, as well as reading books from Max Prasac, I say the Yank is off-base here.

Not even close. The Smith & Wesson guys like to point to their forget frames as a feature that makes them stronger than a casting. Keep in mind that the N-frame was designed around a cartridge that didn't produce much pressure and was a lot milder than the .44 Magnum it was so famously housed in. But that's okay. I still like N-frames and still own them and will in the future. You just don't need to push them hard and they will return decades of faithful service. You can't hurt a Redhawk. More later.....

so the large frame Ruger guns chambered in 30 carbine, 327, 357, 41mag and 44 mag became even bigger in the 45 colt? what a moron. there is so much wrong info in this video it's hard to believe. he talks about Ruger being bulky and unwieldy, well have you seen an X frame smith!

Didn't watch it. A waste of bandwidth..........ask anyone who shot at steel Rams with a Smith.
Obviously he didn't.

I would never say that an S&W is as strong as a Ruger, but think that Ruger does give away a lot of steel. Wouldn't hurt to apply a bit of lean engineering every now & then.

Man, no diss on S&W. They make good strong revolvers. But Ruger makes tanks of revolvers!

Is a New Vaquero any less strong than a forged framed Colt SAA? Not so far as I can tell.

I think you are correct on the New Vaquero revolvers. I recall hearing that they aren't as tankish. I'm just saying that generally Ruger builds beafy Magnum powered revolvers. That way X-Frame sized guns aren't required.

My comment was directed more in reply to the guy in the video. He's not comparing Cast vs. Forged apples to apples. The New Vaq vs Colt SAA is pretty much a straight up apples to apples comparison of Cast vs. Forged strength as they are both the same size, refuting the vid guys notion that cast has to be bigger to be as strong. I'd be willing to wager that Colt's steel as at least as good as what S&W is using.

Oh boy. I finally got around to watching this and this gentleman knows not of what he speaks. Who is he by the way?
The Redhawk in .45 Colt was built to .44 Magnum specifications.....what on earth does that mean?
