Hey guys. Main concern is Arizona critters. Meaning javelina, coyotes, mountain lions, and sub-500 lbs. black bear. Currently I have Hornady 180gr. XTPs that are rated for 1,176 fps. Good enough?

Never had the opportunity to shoot a 10MM. I do remember Sonny packing his Bren Ten though.

If your not wanting to load your own check out underwood ammo.... they have some pretty stiff ones available.

I would say you more than good with it for all but the black bear. I seen guys in NY shoot big blacks with 240 JHP's and none penetrated the fat layer on the other side of the hide. I go hard cast on bears or speer 300gr PSP. it's construction for a jacketed bullet is close to hard cast results.

I don't buy factory ammo I've been reloading for over 25 years. I've loaded loads years before buffalo bore came out with the same one's except for what people pay for a box of 20 I load at 100-200 for that price. I was loading speer 180 & 220 gr 35cal JFP hot loads, BB came out with the same load about 5 years after I'd already been using that load for example. I also like Leadhead hardcast(cor-bon uses his bullets exclusively in their hardcast loads). They are 22-24 on a BH scale. They go through anything in front of them like butter with more velocity & less recoil/muzzle blast that jacketed rounds.

Groo here Having shot the 10mm some, I would use the Federal 180 hunting load, BB,DT,or Underwood FMJ or hard cast 180 + gr loads.

Doubletap has a wide assortment of 10MM in the DT Hunter line - the owner started his business based on a need for full power 10MM. I've run a box of both JHP and Hardcast with no issues in a Glock40MOS. Seem to recall both 180 and 200 Grain JHP rounds.

I usually carry handloaded 200 grain FMJ FP's or hard cast LBT 200 WFN's in my Glock 20. I'm in grizzly country so loading for penetration above all else other than reliability. I think 180 JHP's would serve you well for all except maybe a big black bear. For that I personally would look for more penetration than you might get from a hollow point.

Unless you are real worried about the bears I'd go a lighter bullet at a higher velocity for the other animals on your list. This will give you faster expansion for lighter game and lighter recoil for faster followup shots.
I'm using 155 grain Berry's plated bullets for practice and 165 Gold Dot HPs at 1300 fps for an expanding bullet. The 165s have a sectional density of .146 which is about the same as a 170 .41, 180 .429 or a 200 grain .45...
What handgun are you using?
