Why not the 30 remington based on the old 30 remington shortened. Probably the brass for the 7.62 X 40 would be easier to come by and a lot cheaper. Their web site says it is based on a 5.65 X 45 (223). Ron

The Wilson web site actually mentions the 30 Rem and the reason for using the 223/556 case. Looks like a no brainer to me. Wilson has die sets, loading data, and barrels on the web site.

A friend of mine has one and i have shot it.I reload for him and i have a couple 300 Blackout 1 a pistol the other a carbine.I chose the 300 over the 7.62x40 WT because i also wanted to run subsonic. If you have no plans to run subsonic i would go with the Wilson 7.62x40. Think of it as a .300AI It is a very accurate and easy to reload for.

Not thinking "OR" here. My word in this case is "AND." A plus I see for the WT is that you won't have to watch out for chambering a WT in a 223/556 chamber like you do with the BO/Whisper.

a lot of these "new" AR cartridges... sound an awful lot like earlier TC Contender cartridges...

I had one, sold out of ARs a few years back (during one of the buying frenzies) and sold it. It's a nice round, pretty much approximates the 7.62x39. One disadvantage is that magazines require modification (they do not with the 300 BLK). I bought a couple of modified Lancer mags from Wilson and just used those two. All I did was buy the Wilson barrel, 2 mags, and some Wilson ammo. I never got around to handloading for it.

Just for info purposes, the 30 rem AR is not based on the 30 rem. The case base diam. Of the AR is .500, the old 30 R.E.M. Is .472. I believe the AR round is based on a modified 284 win case, the round uses a rebated rim as well.

a lot of these "new" AR cartridges... sound an awful lot like earlier TC Contender cartridges... There is also a 30 HRT chambering, based on a shortened 30 Remington case. This particular caliber is essentially a rimless 30 Herrett, and uses the same dies. I believe the loading data is a bit heftier, and it runs neck and neck with the 30 Remington AR, but is not quite so ill-mannered as the factory Remington round. I think cases can be made from Remingtons 6.8 SPC cases, but I'm not certain.
