my machinist buddy machines breech blocks, & threads barrels, but they are not interchangeable, I have several custom sets ... I wonder who made that set??? this 25 ACP carbine barrel was made that way, & is quite accurate... but my barrels are thread locked into place, so the head space doesn't change...

An updated spin on the "stub barrel", usually made by people who have the ability to make barrels, but not to weld on lugs.

That would make sense. Is the lug for the contender an easy part to get? I seem to remember there's a shortage but I could definitely be wrong. If correct, it could be a way around that shortage. I suppose it could also have the advantage of headspacing once for multiple calibers, but I can't believe that makes up for all the extra machine work that went into it.

I personally would be very wary of that unless you knew who did the work. Being low pressure rounds it wouldn't be as bad, but I would constantly be making sure it was screwed in tightly. I'm nervous that way.

Looks like a solution to a non-existent problem. Just sayin'...

For $1200.00, I'd buy separate new barrels anyway. I can see the utility aspect, but if you manage to damaged your stub somehow, you're out of business until you have another one made that's an exact match to the original.

Groo here The trick to the contender is the amount of force the standing breach block can take, not the barrel. We are using PSI, so the larger the case head[more Square inches] the greater the force on the breach. Full pressure 223 is just fine , increase the case to 30-30 or 308, much less psi, go to 444 or 45-70 ,lots less pressure... To get around this, large cases, lots of slow powder, for FPS at low pressure. AKA JDJ hand canons [on 444 case] or Reeder's on 405 cases.
