In the world of 3-inch 357 snubbies...
Where does the round butt Ruger Speed Six fit ?
Looking at a stainless one now.
They seem to be more expensive than the SP101 or GP-100. There are also the S&W and Colts to consider.
What is the current opinion of the discontinued Speed Six ?

I like the Speed-Six. The Speed-Six is of course, quite a bit bigger gun than is the diminutive SP-101 and it's S&W/Colt's counterparts the J and D frames respectively. But, you can only squeeze five 38 caliber rounds into the latter. Most Speed-Sixes had barrels of 2.75" if I remember correctly. I think the only 3" models were a special run built for the United States Postal Inspectors as is pictured below. If you indeed have found a 3" version you should waste little time buying it. Some folks will pay a premium for it. Here's a few more pics of a Speed-Six in 9mm. Here's a couple shots of the elusive ASP custom 5-shot Speed-Six in caliber 44 special. Here is the same gun nestled in a cross-draw holster of my own design and making. I learned quickly that it makes more sense just to buy one from some source that knew what they were doing. It is my one and only attempt at leather work. That is, unless you count the extra holes I occasionally have to punch into my shrinking belts.

Have not found a true 3-inch Speed Six.
Sorry, by I loosely combined all the greater than 2-1/2 inch and less than 3-1/2 inch barreled 357 snubbies in the same pool, which is probably inappropriate.
Enjoyed your pictures -- especially the 44 Special.

Think K-frame S&W in size. I really like Dad's (now mine) 4" Speed Six.

If I was in the market for a mid frame .357 snub, I think the speed-six would be a great choice. Like most Rugers, I think it would be found accurate and durable. I would love to find one. Most likely carried in the field loaded with a good .38+P. I'm to much of a wimp to enjoy full .357 125gr mags out of a shorty.

I've owned my 2 3/4 357 stainless speed six for 15 years now and still love it. I bought it from a retired police dective who used it as his duty gun since they first came out. I did some work to the action and it has a great double/single trigger on it. Put on a set of pac compact grips and carried it for years until my switch to a Glock 40. I like much more than the GP100 I also own. Much less bulky, and it fits most holsters for K frame smiths so it gives you a lot of holster options.
