I have a SS 44mag Super BH, I would like to convert it to a Bisley.
Does anyone want to swap parts?
Thank you for looking. Ray BigBore44

If no one wants to swap with you, all the parts can be obtained from midway. I have done three bisley conversions using parts from them.

I want to send my Bisley to G Reeder for a gunfighter grip, I never could get used to the Bisley grip the way it is.

What year was your 44 made? Does the grip frame have the locator tabs? Also, is it the XR3-Red frame or the Dragoon?

From personal experience, I can tell you that there is a lot of variation in factory take offs and frames. I have a couple of blue ones that I have bought that I have yet to find a good match. They of course could be fitted be a capable gunsmith but I'm not that person. I would have thought frame tolerances would be closer than they are.

After looking at my 454's, it's aparent that the mating surfaces are machined, but the rest of the fit, finish, and blending on the frame and grip frame is done on belt sanders and the like. Takes a lot of years of practice to get good at it I bet.....and it explains the variances. I may end up getting an alloy XR3-Red and putting it on the other 454 to try to make it a bit lighter, plus it won't have to be fit since they are all pre powder coated and oversized to some extent. If I don't like the reverse pinto look I can always strip the finish and blend it with the cylinder frame with scotchbrite pads, etc.

I just did 2 months ago an SBH square trigger guard frame in the white, I sanded polished, then had to fit it to my 41 BH. They are all fitted to each gun at the factory that's why there are so many that don't mate right up on another BH/SBH. Some are very close though which unless your super anal don't need to be toughed. It's the same with ruger barrels, you can't take one of a 45 colt BH for example and screw it on another identical ruger BH it would be upside down, sideways, etc. The barrels are machined to fit and headspace each frame individually. That's why I have extra barrels and no lathe
