I have a Hawes Western marshall .357 mag that I love to replace the aluminum gripframe with a brass one. Has anyone done this? Does anyoneknow off hand if the 1851 .36 Navy gripframe would fit? TIA for any help.

I tried it with a .357 Hawes and a generic no-name brand Italian parts box strap set.
In that instance:
(1) All the screw holes lined up. Pretty much on out of the box.
(2) The taper of the Hawes frame in front of the trigger guard was much faster than with whatever blackpowder Italian gun. Quite a bit of metal removal would be required to make it look at all decent.
(3) The curvature of the Italo parts above the backstrap screws next to the hammer was MUCH taller than the Hawes frame, though I suspect someone better than me could work it down to look OK with considerable work.
(4) The Italianate hammer spring lined right up with the roller on the Hawes hammer, and the groove was even right.
