Groo here Will a blackhawk barrel fit a new vaquero? I am working on a conversion to 41 mag and if any have a takoff in SS I would be interested if it will fit.

Yes, it'll fit. Of course the B/C gap needs to be "looked at".....
A .41 Mag. calibre barrel in stainless steel is going to be very hard to find since they were only made in the Hunter line. Ruger's never made a stainless .41 Blackhawk.

Carl - don't forget .41 mag Acusport Bisleys. Groo - Let's say you did find a takeoff for this project. If its a hunter barrel, forget it, you would have to turn the barrel down to get rid of the rib. If it's a Bisley take off, the only length is 5.5" All the NM midframes and the 44 Mag anniversary Flattop have the ERH clocked just a little farther south than the regular full size frames. This means you will definately have to trial adjust the barrel shoulder to use a full size takeoff. Then you will have remove the silver soldered front sight, and cut a dovetail for a new sight blade, hoping that the original sight pin hole doesnt interfere with your new sight cut. Then you need to adjust B/C gap, turn the warning off the side, and high polish the barrel. Or, send these guys a .357 New Vaquero barrel, and a check for $150 for a top quality rebore. These are the guys H. Bowen uses for rebores. www.deltagunshop.com/

Ah, yes, I'd forgotten those Bisleys.... So, I guess I'd recommend calling ALL the Custom Smiths and ask. Surely someone has a barrel... Carl

Groo here Good stuff all next rebore the cylinder? ?? To do the job correctly it should be "linebored". There are probably as many ways to approach this task as there are "'smiths". JMHO, Carl

Have you considered hunting up a stainless S&W 41 barrel? I have 41, 44, and 45 blue ribbed S&W barrels in the parts bin waiting for a few projects I have in mind... They will "Fit" when cut and rethreaded for the Ruger....

If the gun shoots well before the conversion, a piloted rechamber should be fine.
A .41 S&W barrel will take a LOT of frame welding to bring the vaquero top strap up to match.
