David,,, it's the factory stock hammer. I just noticed it was skeletonized when we were installing the firing pin. I'm the same as you, in reliability is foremost in my guns,, no matter what they are designed to do. That's why I still shoot a 1911 45 acp in Ltd 10 division in USPSA. I won't spend a lot of $$$ building a "tricked out" competition gun that is finicky. I've seen WAY too many of the expensive guns have minor issues. This gun is stock except for the firing pin, the grips, and the extended cylinder release.
I wish it was as simple as my thumb dragging the hammer. THAT I could fix easily. I've had this issue with slow fire, rapid fire, etc.
As for headspace,,, due to it being intermittent, and not always on the same chamber(s) with different moon clips, I don't think headspace is the issue. I'm going to attempt a shim between the mainspring & the screw to see what happens.

Contender,I've used a small nut, resting on the tip of the mainspring screw to increase tension. It stays in place.

Groo here This is a common problem with the frame mounted firing pin .[is yours one???] If so, Cylinder and Slide [ans others ] have been making a "longer" firing pin. The notch on the firing pin where the retaining pin goes is a little longer allowing the pin to travel a little farther. Seen on the m25/325/625 45acp revolvers. Replace the pin and shoot. Other problem id the mainspring tension screw has backed out or been backed out [cheep trigger job] or the screw is short and the hammer fall is light. To tect, the tension screw should be all the in,if no joy, take a spent primer and remove the anvil. put the cup over the screw and tighten. Springs can be replaced .

I'm told the Cylinder and Slide pin is a premium part. I broke one of them and switched to Power Custom. And I've broken two of those. I'm on the fourth or fifth firing pin, so clearly I don't know the correct answer here! Next up on the to-try list is Apex, which I have not tried. The firing pins are failing at the 2,500 round mark, with almost zero dry-fires.(probably less than 10 on the latest pin)
This is all on a 929.
I meant to take a picture: While reloading last week I found a Blazer 9mm case that had a thin rim. The rim was less than half the thickness of any other case! And I've fired this case multiple times! It should have never gone off in the 929! (With the moon clips, it completely spaces off rim thickness) Shows what I know again.
Springs are cheap. Firing pins are cheap.
With factory springs, it should easily light off every primer on the earth. This pushes me back towards clips and ammo. Assuming the gun has been completely disassembled and thoroughly cleaned.

groo,,, if you didn't catch it,, I've already replaced the firing pin. The mainspring has been removed & re-tightened, just to double check the surfaces. Testing is in order next,, as I've tried tweaking the ammo a little, etc. Just gotta get some range time.
