He mills the SP profiles from rifled stock, you are correct about the current rebore situation. Right you are. missed the part about you wanting the sp profile barrel.

I was originally dreaming of a GP Redhawk hybrid with a .475 or .500 Colt DA barrel. No dice on that idea, but an SP with the muzzle break looks pretty darn cool. Hopefully I'll have the funds to start this project next year.

I talked to Mr. Bowen and he advised using a late model 480 cylinder (with locator pins for extractor). Does anyone know about which year they switched to the newer style? I haven't seen any used 480s with the pinned versions since this thread started.
I guess not finding a pinned 6x480 cylinder would be a great excuse to get a 500L...

Here's a 6 shot Alaskan... www.gunbroker.com/item/579471997Think about having him do one of his full underlug custom barrels. They're about the same price as the barrel work with a Colt barrel.

..if you had to get one, what's the bottom line on it's purpose?
is it hunting big things that bite - go big..
is it backup and you want to be able to buy ammo over the counter - sorta goes for the 480..
aside from my 475 - and the "pocket pistol" 44m - I was wondering why you didn't include the 500 s&w on the list - and then get a Big Horn Armory Model 89 Lever-Action to carry out the "two-guns-one caliber" thing..

I'm not sure what year it was but when they quit making the matt finish and went to stainless SRH 454's and 480's is when they went to the pinless extractor. A grey 480 should have extractor pins.

It would be another packin' pistol that gets shot more than carried. I like big bores even though nothing I do requires one, they're just more fun to shoot. Also, the 500 S&W doesn't fit into any package I'm currently interested in but that might change in the future. I should be getting my first custom back soon and it's chambered for a 1.4" 500 S&W case. I'm sure my opinions will change after shooting that for a while.

Also, thanks for the info Snyd. That helps to narrow down the serial number range for pinned cylinder guns.
