Magnum, as to ignition, pull that puppy apart. BP is very hygroscopic, meaning it attracts and holds moisture. Mix that with the corrosive salts in BP, and over time, it really corrodes things up unless neutralized with a good cleaning. I use Ballistol, a super oil that is an alkalide and neutralizes those salts. Great for cleaning the barrel too when mixed with water, as it is water soluble too.
When that white cloud of smoke follows your shot, it permeates every nook and cranny of a gun. Over time, it slows up the lockwork if not addressed. Hope this helps. Nothing like BP and ML to get back to our roots a s rifleman.
