Hi y'all The stock butt pad just isn't cutting it for me. Fired 3 rounds thru it, and I REALLY didn't care for that 3rd one. Thinking about upgrading butt pad, which would you recommend? Pachmayer Decelerator, LimbSaver, or Kick-Eze? Thanks

I had the Pachmayr Decelerator on an 11-87 Premier Skeet 12 gauge and it was so comfotable shooting everything from light 1 oz target loads to buckshot, steel BBs for geese and slugs. I could shoot matches all day and my shoulder was no worse for wear; only my cheek from laying against the stock to sight the clay birds.

honestly I think you would be ok with any of the ones you listed... I just had a leather butt cuff made for my guide gun... holds 5 cartridges & has just enough padding to disapate the knarly loads

Lever actions famous for compact brutish power, famously mount the meatball thrower on a skinny buttstock. Pachmayr Decelerator----excellent cushion. Medium soft with air pockets. Avoid the "Prefit" model, as these have a sheet metal across the middle which may brand you arm upon recoil. Not only that, it still requires fitting. Limbsaver----very effective within a certain range of recoil. Exceed that recoil, and the large air pocket may collapse and increase the jab to your shoulder. Kick-Eez----sorbothane, combines the resilience and mush you want in a wrestling mat. David Bradshaw

Thank you gentlemen. Sounds like a "grind to fit" Pachmayr Decelerator is in my near future.

Kick-Eez----sorbothane, combines the resilience and mush you want in a wrestling mat. David Bradshaw I have read that 1/2 dozen times and have no idea what it means. Markbo.... Kick-Eez pad is made from closed-cell foam rubber. It does not rely on large air pockets to increase cushioning. The Limbsaver seems to have the largest air pockets of any I have tried and provides excellent cushioning, yet bottoms out under heaviest recoil. The Pachmayr Decelerator relies on air pockets and works very well. When dressing one of these pads on a coarse belt sander to fit a buttstock, a bit of flare increases the patch of shoulder contact. A rifle should not be stood on any of these pads for long periods, especially in a hot climate. An occasional rub with talcum powder prolongs the life of any of these pads. Real rubber loves talcum powder; synthetic rubber likewise. Thus, other gear from rubber boot to rubberized binocular receives the talcum treatment. David Bradshaw

When I first got my Marlin 1895 in 45/70 I went to the range in hot weather wearing a "T" shirt. That sharp plastic butt plate drew blood - it was crippling! I called a stock maker buddy the next day and took the Marlin to his shop (after picking up a Limb Saver pad at the gun shop). He installed it and ground it perfectly to fit after cutting off the stock to my length preference.
The difference was AMAZING! That rifle was transformed. Now, it can be shot all day long without issue.
I would think that either the Limb Saver or Packmayr pad would work well.

I put a Kick-Eze Jr. on mine, but I cut the stock down a bit.
