Ordered a Pedersoli Mississippi Classic Rolling Block this morning chambered in 45 Colt.
Figured this would be an era correct gun for a classic cartridge.
The gun is also available in 45-70, 38-55 & 30-30, so thinking strength won't be an issue.
The barrel has a 1 in 16" twist for heavy bullets and long range accuracy. The Single Shot design lends itself to unparalleled flexibility in bullet design and length.
Should be here in a few days. Look forward to trying a few loads out and maybe trying one of my tang sights on it.

Need pics when it knocks on your door! Great choice, what are you going to load it with and what sights are you going to use? Look forward to seeing your targets when you sight that weapon in!

Well, the gun weighs 7 lbs. To keep it slim and trim, thinking a Marbles Tang Sight will keep it sexy.
Probably develop a cast bullet load about 1300 fps as the Ruger only loads chronograph from a revolver.
For more serious hunting, a Magnum XTP over Lil Gun since that powder loves longer barrels.

This sounds like a really interesting setup. I can't wait to see what it does.

I've got one original Remington #1, & one Navy Arms... both in longer cartridges ( 32-40 & 40-65 )... love the Rolling blocks... think one in 45 Colt would be awesome
sorry.. typo on the 2nd chambering

I have a pretty good collection of them from 22 LR to 50-70. Absolutely my vote for the best rifle design of all times. But, I was born 100 years too late.
I look forward to this gun and will have a range report soon.
I love to experiment with lots of loads, bullets, etc. This gun will be much more forgiving than my lever guns.
I think nearly perfect for an evil handloader who loves the 45 Colt.
Certainly appreciate all the positive posts.

I actually like to shoot them off the bench, as I don't have to "un-bed" the action to chamber another round

I have a Uberti Baby RB in 218 Bee and a custom Lone Star in 25-35 that are scoped, so I prairie dog hunt with them.
Have made the same observation. They are easy to reload and shoot.
The Lone Star is one Dave built for himself. He wasn't used to loading tapered rounds and had lots of trouble with it.
I done some trading and it came home with me. Clean all the lube off the cases and it shoots 1/2" @ 100 yards with 85 grn Ballistic Tips.

Sounds like a dandy setup, one that's easy to feed and won't beat you up too bad.
I love my old single shots, but them "buffler rounds" use up heaps of powder, not to mention lead. My bigger stuff all use 500-700 grain bullets, you go through your lead pretty quickly like that.

Received the gun today. It exceeds my highest expectations by a good degree. I am primarily a revolver guy, but this rifle is the perfect companion for my 45 Colt revolvers.

The key word being Perfect is right in line since both barrels use the 1-16 twist. What weights have you decided upon to test with? Anything out of the ordinary ? Charles

Perfect is largely opinion in this matter too. For my taste, the Rolling Block was tops of the Single Shots. Not everyone will share that opinion. The various falling blocks, up to and including the Ruger #1, are high on my list.
I hope the gun likes the Matt's Wadcutter 250 grn. There are also a multitude of 300+ grn cast that will be tried.
And as always with me, the Hornady XTP jacketed bullets rate near the top. Nothing really extraordinary. But, the old 45 Colt has been doing extraordinary things with ordinary components for a long time. I expect the same here.

Pretty cool project ! When I was about 8 yrs old the guy across the street had his wife order him to clean the basement. He subbed the job out to me. Payment to be anything that fit in my Radio Flyer wagon. I came home with a fishing rod, tackle box, rail road lantern and a Remington #1 in .43 Spanish. It was about as long as I was tall. Mom threw a hissy ! Sold it to help cover my hunting licenses one year back when just re-newing drivers license for the first time. Planned on hunting 4 states that yr.. I wish..well, we all have wishes like that I'd bet.
