It is coming down to a couple of issues. Just in from some lawn mowing, JD tractor. The lil Bulldog on board as always. So, to upgrade the Bulldog, but not feel burdened. To have another round available. Then, shootability. One makes the M329PD a clear choice, the other has me leaning towards the M69. I am fairly certain of one thing, likely neither a bad choice ! Slather me in some logic and help me out here !

If you plan on shooting handloads in the heavy 44 Special power range (or plinkers at 800 -900 fps), and will carry the gun alot but shoot it little I'd go with the 329.
Of course you know, the correct answer on this board of chronic enablers is to buy both.

Friend of mine and his gal came up from Nebraska for a varmint safari. Both of them shot my model 69 with bullseye loads and 1200fps loads. He's a very experienced shooter. They liked it immensely, especially the glow worm front sight. Handiest revolver I've ever shot and carried. I'll bet he buys one soon.

Your M69 came with an F/O front sight ? Both the ones I left fingerprints on had standard black sights. The M329PD's seem to with F/O front and an express rear.

I made a taller front sight originally. Now it's wearing as green Dawson front sight which is wonderful. Shot a bunch yesterday with it, nine grains of power pistol with an H&G 503. Starting to wear through the X frame grips.

I know lots of folks hate the fiber optic front sights -- I love them, especially the green. Old eyes and bright sights -- made for each other, almost a must for me in less than optimum light conditions or black background. The worst ones are the S&Ws with the red insert -- top of front sight just washes out for me.
I've got a 1/10" Dawson front serrated ramp IIRC that I'm going to install on one of the 69s today. Been waiting for one of the little jeweler's drills which came yesterday (I'm a bit to wobbly and impatient to use a power drill successfully.
I've worn out four or five sets of the Hogue 500s (I also keep several spares). The way I hold the gun, the upper left edge of grip develops a hole. Sort of look at them like tires -- they need to be replaced periodically due to wear. More than worth it for me.

Am taking notes, Paul ! Like thinner sights, am wanting an F/O front. Hogues must be soft, but Ok, if they work.

Hi Paul That's exactly where mine are wearing out. One evening in may we were coming off the mountain. Still a little snow here and there. Definitely after shooting time, stopped for a bathroom break. Pulled the model 69 with the Dawson sight and holy cow!!!! It was easy to see the front sight. Love it for long range shooting in the daylight too.
Thank you again for your wise counsel regarding model 69s. Frank

If I could go the both route, I'd nab the easy to pack 6shot M329PD and its heavier brother the M629. Sigh.

Was talking last night to the guy that allowed me to shoot his M629 4" some months ago and he up and offers it to me ! He's gonna lend it to me to play with a bit, and keep his fingers crossed I guess. Gun has less than 150 rds thru it and two cylinders full were from my hand. I am sooo confused now. Apparently not as confused as the folks at the conference table bargaining for our contract. Them folks are STILL talking ! The federal mediator spent a week with them and went home, some progress made I hear. Nerves shot, but OT slush fund adding up. I hope I don't need to use it for a strike. Aargh !

I'd go with the 329PD by a WIDE margin. I hunt & fish in Grizzly country & got to shoot one with heavy 300gr loads. Not pleasant, but doable & a dream to carry.

"A dream to carry", yeah, can't get away from that angle. So friend handed off the M629 4" last night. Has less than 150rds thru, and a dozen of'em by my hand anyway. The plan is to pack this around the homestead here while picking up dog bombs, burning trash, lawn mowing, for a few days and judge how the weight and bulk hit me. I remember shooting this gun with factory 44mag ammo, and it has plenty of recoil, but shootable enough. My other and only 44mag my longtime owned SBH and the recoils don't really compare well. This M629 has S&W logo'd rubber grips and is a 629-8. With it's low mileage and only owner a friend, what would be a fair to both of us price ? With less bulk and weight, the M69 is still calling my name, sigh. But with this M629, my thought is it's gonna be the most shootable and maybe later I can nab a M329. All posts are being read and pondered, thrown into my mental blender to help me form a decision. Thank You All.

This custom Dan Wesson is a dream to carry... the barrel nut compensator works great, & it's about like shooting a normal 357, with heavy "bear load" 44 magnum ammo... since I have pretty much replaced it with stainless Ruger Alaskans in 454 & 480... I went back & installed a 6" barrel on this gun... if you could find some parts from a Dan Wesson Pistol pack in 44 Magnum & get a similar Comp/nut made I'd think you'd be really happy... BTW... steer clear of the Dan Wesson integrated comp... ported barrel liner, & offset ported barrel shroud... this custom snubbie barrel was built from a 6" factory ported barrel, that was shot with cast bullets, & not pulled off for a long time, they were literally soldered together, to where they needed to be cut apart... the good thing... it did make a nice snubbie package
