Am awaiting a new contract here, union job. Been working as much OT as I have left in me, at the hottest weather so far this year. Where I work, similar to a steel mill, but with silica and glass being prcessed and made. HOT ! The upper deck won't come below 110 now until late Sept.. Been limping around on planters facia and inflamed tendon in right foot, and arthritus in right foot too. Piling up strike fund, balanced by what I can get thru health-wise at the moment. But if/when ink dries on new contract, anew TOY ! Sooo, contract runs out Sunday nite midnight... Been offered a M329 too, maybe, just maybe.. Good luck with everything, buddy. Make sure you don't over do it either. I've always wanted a 329PD, then I see the 69 and kinda like that one to. I think the 329 would oky doky with special loads.... Be a great carry piece that's for sure. Best Ray

Yeah, trying to define role of revolver, nail down the needs/wants, compile short list. There are days when the Bulldog and its 5 44spec loads seems a bit short of giving me confidence. The M69 is a 44mag but still a 5-shooter. The M629 is a 6-gun 44mag.. The M329 would be a joy to carry, same size and bulk of the M629 but at Bulldogs weight, it might float if not for the bullets ! The M69 likely the best fit for my hand, fit being why I've talked less of an Alaskan lately. Ok, guess what I've been calling the M329 is really the PD329 ? Guess ya knew what I meant anyway. The 4" barreled Smiths look better balanced than the snubby Alaskans, more field friendly and shootable. What is the smallest rubber grip for an Alaskan, bulk/width-wise ?

The old style GP100 grips and the smaller compact GP100 grips that used to come on the 3" GP100's are the smallest I've seen.

I have the Talo Kodiak Backpacker, a mountain gun and a 329pd. The Backpacker gets heavy by the end of the day and I could never shoot the mountain gun well for some reason so if I feel the need to carry a double action the 329pd is it. I have been very impressed with the accuracy and 30oz loaded makes for easy carrying. I've read the horror stories about the flame cutting, but proper powder choice will all but eliminate that and mine isn't showing any signs after around 2,000 rounds. I did swap the v notch rear sight with a regular square notch and it's a worthy upgrade.

I've shot mostly 10 to 11 grains of unique in it. With the light weight I keep the stout loads to a minimum. These were mostly the Lyman 429421 and an old Ohaus 245k.

I've had a habit of trying to reduce the number of different powders I use lately otherwise I probably would have tried many different ones. I live in a RV full time so space is limited.

I'm in an apartment now. Downsizing has it's, well, down sides. I also rent a storage garage. I can set up my single stage Hornady at home, but the Dillon is mounted to a bench in the garage on the other side of our small town (~35k people).

It does have downsides, but my bills are next to nothing now so more for primers and powder. I winter in Arizona so all I do is shoot out there.

When I got it, I read about the problems and avoided any hot loads and slower powders. So far it's working out.

Bulasteve, do you reload? If so try the old Skelton/Keith .44 Special load only substitute a good 200gr hard bullet over the powder charge. I got 820fps from a Bulldog & pretty good accuracy. Not a barn burner load, but the pressure is mid you could even go up a bit & probably get 900 pretty easily. Might do till your dream comes in. I've shot the 329 with heavy 300gr loads & while not fun sure would penetrate. Should be nice with an 800fps Special load. Let us know which way you go. Good luck.
