Yetiman congrats! does it feel as good as it looks? Yes, it does, though I haven't 'heated it up' yet.

I was in a gun shop this past weekend and they had the S&W 69 and the Alaskan 454 for me to handle. I Really like the 69.... I was surprised that I didn't like the Alaskan more than the Smith 69, but I did like'em both. Just seemed like the Smith 69 has a better balance and overall feel I liked better.. Of course the correct answer is to buy, Both! Now if my wallet could just handle one or the other I'd be OK... In do time, yep, In do time! Good luck deciding, Steve... BigBore44

I have shot a short barrel 69 and an Alaskan 44, and enjoyed the Alaskan experience more. But I have to admit I was a magnum cartridge neophyte when I shot the Smith and was much better prepared for the Alaskan when I shot it. The Alaskan feels like a 'big gun' when you hold it, more so than the Smith of Kodiak.
I hope I like the Kodiak as much.

Alaskan .480 all the way. I myself would be wary of the S&W 69 with the lock. Too many tales (internet or not) about the lock locking up the gun, which could be hazardous at times in bear country.

For now, the NM Vaquero Sheriff in 44spec is my step up gun. Another round and capable of handling a bit stouter loads if need be. It's the polished S.S. w/3.75" barrel. With the little button headed ejector rod, it ejects decently.

I have purchased 2 Model 69 Smiths! Both have been supremely accurate. I sold one to a friend that had a daughter who was being transferred to Alaska, and the other has become a constant woods companion! Is it as smooth as my old Pre 29 5"? NO! Is it easier to pack and just as accurate if not more so? YES!!! The Lock! 10 minute operation! The only locks I have heard of failing is on Scandium J frame 357s! The appeal of an L Frame 44 Magnum is quite appealing, not truly appreciated until holding one in the hand! Search Paul G on this website; his work with the 69, very impressive work! This was 20yds offhand with a 44Spl load at 1000fps. 4 in one hole and a flyer, and IIRC it was the 3rd shot. It was my bad not the gun. But this is typical accuracy with this load and this gun. Bullet is a commercial cast 240SWC and a CCI standard primer. 8,0 grains of Power Pistol. 16K pressure!

I've handled a M69, as mentioned, and took part in Paul's thread. Yes, an option.

The more I shoot that model 69, the more I love it.

I'm a bit late to this party, but don't ever count the S&W mod. 24 out, they aren't bad to pack & will digest 900fps loads all day. Heavier if you really need them but I'd use them on a limited basis.

Ran into another M69 at a LGS yesterday. Already had a lb of Power Pistol under my arm, as they had just gotten in a powder and primer delivery ! After handling an M69 for a second time now, further thoughts. It fits my hands nicely. I have medium sized hands at best, stubby fingers, no matter how you whack the barrel a RH or SRH is a big revolver. I like the Smith's 4" barrel as this more of a PPP/fishin' and dog walking gun for me, maybe a back-up piece to a primary. More thinkin' and day dreaming required. Any and all opinions will be entertained. Thanks

Oh, somebody here at SA forum, yesterday in another thread mentioned that their M69 brought to mind the idea of, if FA built a DA it would be like the M69. This stuck in my head when I left for work and prompted me to ask GG(gunshop guy) if they had one I could leave fingerprints on. They did, I did. I don't have anything here from FA, but thought this high praise and certainally would agree that fit/finish/looks are all spot on with this revolver. Bought my wife the little airweight .22 with F/O sights a few years back, but this would be my first Smith.

I was out teaching a couple on how to use their Kahr CW9s yesterday and had my Smith 69 in the range bag. There was a gong at 100 meters and they asked if people ever shot that far with a handgun. The Smith 69 loaded with a Keith bullet and 18.5 grains of 2400 came to answer their question. Stnding using a weaver stance that Smith made that gong wring like a church bell.
Buy or not buy what you like but I find myself taking that 69 with me everytime I get a chance to go to the woods or to the outdoor range!

Am awaiting a new contract here, union job. Been working as much OT as I have left in me, at the hottest weather so far this year. Where I work, similar to a steel mill, but with silica and glass being prcessed and made. HOT ! The upper deck won't come below 110 now until late Sept.. Been limping around on planters facia and inflamed tendon in right foot, and arthritus in right foot too. Piling up strike fund, balanced by what I can get thru health-wise at the moment. But if/when ink dries on new contract, anew TOY ! Sooo, contract runs out Sunday nite midnight... Been offered a M329 too, maybe, just maybe..

Model 69 is my favorite revolver. Very accurate, 9.5 grains of power pistol, WLP, starline brass is a bit over a thousand with an #H&G 503. After three thousand rounds the trigger is very smooth and zero problems with the lock. I should take it out I guess. Paul 105 has three of them, and I completely understand why. Fine revolver.
