Ryker got this one at a lazered 165 yards with his 17 HMR. (I could not believe it either) This was Wed. afternoon, then we went back Friday Morning. (See below)

Okay, there we go. Went hunting this morning with my 11 year old Grandson. I managed to get this one at a lazered 106 yards with my CZ 22 Hornet. My Grandson Ryker nailed this one at a lazered 110 yards with his 17 HMR. (That 17 HMR is no joke.) Great time on a beautiful spring morning. We saw about 38 rabbits today. Not a one stopped less than 100 yards away. Very wild for some reason. They may have been hunted quite a bit by others. It was a good challenge for him and not unlike hunting deer as we were in the mountains as opposed to the Sagebrush flats. He will hunt Mule Deer this fall as he will be 12 by then. I want him to be ready.

Doing it right with the boy, jacks are a lot of fun and sure do teach you a lot about making the shot when hunting. Keep it up.

I think it's Great that you are passing on a heritage, and teaching your Grandson the ways of the past... Good for you, and your Grandson...

Great shots, those are a long way out for such a small target at that age, especially with a 17.
Looks just like what we used to do in Utah and Idaho as kids. We even did it a bit in the high desert in CA. Still have the bug too, jack rabbits are my favorite varmint to hunt. But I won't actually touch them once they're dead, they're too dirty and I'm too OCD. I got cured of that when I picked one up a long time ago and the fleas ran up my arm like a wave of rats off a sinking ship.

Never thought about the Grandson holding on to them. BTW, These are Utah Jacks taken just west of Utah lake on that mountain range.

I know that place well, the back side of Utah Lake has changed a lot in the last 10 years with Saratoga Springs development.

Also, they have to hold up their trophies for the pics! Great outing it looks like.
