Local pusher has one and it caught my eye. No hammer spur and slightly smaller (or so it appears) than the 4566TSW that is also in the case. $50 less than the 4566TSW makes it even more appealing. I've had a couple of 5906 and one 6906 so I think I have a pretty good idea of how it will handle, just in .45. Anyone else have one or had one in the past? I've got a little mad money inbound and I was giving serious thought to a 4" .357 GP100. Might have to reroute that train of thought...

457 was from their economy series and was lower priced based on fewer refinements and reduced finishing. That may be moot if you improve your own guns, but IMO the economy series will never fetch the same price as the "premium" guns, especially in the more desirable configurations of the various 10mm and .45s.
Either way, I like the 3rd Gen guns and still have my early 5906, which has run flawlessly since 1989.

Had the 4516, 4506 and the 4566. The 4516 is the "high priced spread" model that the 457 is a cheaper knock off of. If you want a 3rd generation 45 spend the extra 50 and grab that 4566. The 4566 is a 4.25" bbl and nicely finished, better trigger and sights. It's worth the 50 bucks several times over!

Valid points and even more so if I figure in replacing the 457 3 dot sights with tritiums which the 4566 already has. And my memory was off, there's $75 between the two ($425 vs $500). The idea is for it to be a truck gun/occasional carry piece. The 457 wins bonus points from me for being shorter(fits the truck console better), a half pound lighter (29 ozs vs 39.1 ozs), and no hammer spur to dig into me when carried IWB. I haven't talked myself out of or into either one yet. I'd certainly get both if I could swing it but may end up with neither if something else really catches my fancy!

Some time has passed on this thread, but the 457 is a highly thought of alloy frame, short butt, single stack traditional double action 45. Like posted above, it is a simple version of the regular 3rd Gens. They run like a Timex watch (If you remember the old commercials). That 4566 should also be great. For what it's worth.

I carried a 4566 for years. They really a piece of junk. Not designed to shoot a lot of rounds through it. Every time we shot atleast one would break down. I would stay away from any 3rd generation guns. They are a really nice looking gun but that's where it ends for me. Switched to the M&P. Much better gun. Still is no Glock!!!!
