So I'm looking to buy/order a new gun within the next couple of weeks and I figured it wouldn't hurt to ask you all for some input as I am having trouble deciding what to get. Right now my main options that I'm looking at would be the Henry CCH 45-70 rifle or a Magnum research BFR preferably in .500 JRH although I may consider a long cylinder model. I have one BFR now chambered in 50-110 along with Rugers ranging from .22 LR up to .480 Ruger. I have several lever actions including a 30-30, a .357, a .44 mag, and a .45 colt. I'm looking for opinions of both guns, and pro's and con's. I don't have the money to buy both currently so that's not an option although it would be my first choice. I'm open to other suggestions in the same price range. Thanks for any input and I'm sorry for the long post.

I'd go for the BFR 500 JRH, and maybe quell the 45-70 itch with a CVA Hunter single shot.  |

Well, this forum leans a little more towards handguns so I'll ask, do you have a 44 flat top? You probably do but if not you should be taken to the wood shed for a little tune up! Everyone needs a good 44 special flat top in the herd, so after you heal up from the whipping go get one.....actually any of the guns you mention are just fine as long as its a handgun.

Dick I do happen to have a 5.5" blued .44 special Flat top so you don't have to take me to the wood shed just yet lol. |

On that 45-70 in a rifle have you shot one yet? I have a 86 Winchester that I shoot 50 alsakan out of, as well a 74 sharps...I must say they are a lot more pleasant to shoot than a 45-70 lever gun...fwiw

I have a 86 Winchester that I shoot 50 alsakan out of, as well a 74 sharps...I must say they are a lot more pleasant to shoot than a 45-70 lever gun...fwiw I haven't shot a 45-70 lever gun. I shot a bfr in 45-70 and it wasn't bad at all but I generally handle recoil from a handgun better than a long gun. Not sure if that's just because Im more familiar with handguns or what. At this point I'm leaning towards a .500 jrh bfr. |

That 500 BFR should be a dandy, I think there are a few members here that have them & seem quite happy. I'm sure your recoil tolerance will get tested with that baby. Looking forward to the write up.

I contacted magnum research today about price of a bfr .500 jrh. They quoted $1224 for a standard model and $1524 with black micarta grips fitted, both prices include shipping to local FFL. For $350 more they will fit a 50 ae cylinder.
