I wanted to run a load by the experts here and see if anyone had any experience with something similar.
I have one the Ruger Blackhawk 480's on order. Was looking at putting some rounds together to have ready when it arrives.
The recipe I have in mind is the Cast Performance 410 gr. wide flat nose on top of 21 grains of H110. Anyone know of any reason this would be a bad idea.
Not looking to push the limits. Just looking to put something together that will thump hogs with authority without being too tough on me.

That same slug over about 12-13 grains of HS 6 would probably do well also. You'll have to check the loads but I think Hoover had some good loads posted not long ago. Found his thread from a while back. This would get you started. singleactions.proboards.com/thread/15773/loads-ruger-bisley-chart-addedIt doesn't take much to pop a hog with these big bullets velocity wise. Good luck and keep it fun.

Welcome to the forum Keechikid ! To me at least(non-expert)H110 is a push it to the limits powder. It has minimal ability to download. This doesn't fit with your last sentence well. Do you have any other powders on hand ? Of course if you plink with a S&W 500, nevermind.

I have some Unique on hand, but I can get whatever I need since I'm still waiting on the Blackhawk.
I figure a load pushing that bullet 1000-1100 fps will accomplish my goals. Just looking for the most efficient means to get there.

HS6 is all I use with WLP primers. Runs nicely at 1100 and will be easy on you and the gun. 1050-1100 is nice range to work with.

I'd appreciate you sharing it if you get it chrono'd. I have both powders now and will probably load up a few of both and try them out.
If Ruger gets another round of these Blackhawks out.

The load you want to use is actually one of my top two loads for my 480 ruger bisley. Very accurate and pleasant to shoot. My gun gets right at 1190 fps with this load. However, it would not shoot to point of aim with the factory front sight and the rear screwed all the way down. Custom made front sight fixed that.

I bought a pound of the H110 and 2 pounds of the HS-6. I am gonna load up some of both and see which one does what when the Ruger finally makes it to me.
I have been looking at loading up some 45 Colt for my 625 Mountain gun. Was looking at Linebaugh's 260 Keith loads where he uses either 13 grains of HS-6 or 23 H110. I figure I can find a use for both powders between those 4 options.

On those Linebaugh loads for the N-frame S&W 45 Colt guns, I'd work up to those if I was doing it.
I let my 45 Colt Mt Gun go to help finance my Harton Montado, but I recall using caution as the guns are beautiful, expensive, and a 260 Keith at 900-1000 fps can do a whole heck of alot without stressing shooter or revolver.
I try and limit my 45 Colt loads to 20-23k psi in mid-frame Rugers and S&W revos.

OK ran some loads over the chrono today and my preferred load is 20r H1110, used starling brass with CCI primers and Cast Performance 410gr wide flat nose gas checked at 1.620 COL and got an average of 1113 FPS which is right where i thought they would be through the SBH Bisley 6-1/2" tube at 38 degrees temp. also ran some at 20.5 gr H1110 and turned in an average of 1134 fps hope this helps
