I just got my first two Belt Mountain base pins in the mail today and installed them without a hitch. First class

Do those require any fitting? Is that too revolver a SBH Bisley in either .480 or .454? I'd like to get one for my SBH .480 and wasn't sure if fitting was required.
Thanks,
John

The top revolver is a Ruger Super Blackhawk in 454 Casull. The bottom revolver in a Ruger Blackhawk Bisley flat top in .44 Special. The pins just replaced the factory ones. No fitting was needed for either of these these two guns.

Do those require any fitting? Not sure on the 454/480 Blackhawks, but they tend to be a direct drop-in in my experience on everything else. I have replaced all of my base pins with Belt Mtn #5 base pins and am extremely happy. Tighten things up a bit and it's an easy way to add a small (and inexpensive) personal touch to your single action.

The pin itself should be a drop-in, but if you use the "Bowen" style locking pin, you will need to drill the barrel to receive the lock screw. Personally I favor the non-locking style, although on the big boomers the locking pin might be prudent.

Cool... I can't quite make out the picture with my phone. Which design did you put in the Bisley Flattop? Thanks BigBore44

On the .44 Flat Top. I installed the Knurled blue New Model Blackhawk pin.

Faca454 Thanks.. I was just looking at the website and the different designs. I like the knurled and #5 styles pretty good. I guess on these "locking" styles like you used in your Flattop, the little allen screw/set screw just tightens up to the barrel? I know the Bowen style needs to be drilled for a recess, but these other styles don't, correct?? They are just used like a factory base pin, or are you supposed to snug down the screw? Sorry for all the questions. I just want to have my facts straight Thanks again BigBore44

Exactly. They snug against the barrel. I don't see them coming out under recoil. I just thought that the SRH factory pin looks so much more industrial and better in my opinion.

Those knurled pins look nice!
Does anyone know if the "Bowen" style can use the recess that is drilled in the barrel of the 480 SBH for the factory basepin?
I am sure I could call Belt Mountain but tjoihh someone her might know already.

The holes on the SBH 454/480 are in a different location compared to the Belt mountain pin.

faca454,
So the standard pin you are using tightens directly against the barrel (as if the factory hole were not there)?
Was thinking about getting a #5 but want to know how the replacement would work.
Thanks, Freeze

It snugs against the barrel and not in the factory pin "hole" that the OEM pin does.

I emailed Keyle at belt mountain. He makes a base pin to fit the factory drilled hole on the 5 shot bisley supers. Right now he is out of them ,but is in the process of making more. Side note ,the locking screw should not bottom out on the barrel. It will flex the pin causing binding of the cylinder .
