I've been wanting a 4" K frame S&W 22LR for quite some time now, and wondered how many of you folks have one (Or More ) and what you think of them..?
I really like the looks & features of the 4" bbl. Model 18/K22, but like the Patridge F-sight on the 6" M-17.
What do you guys think about these Smiths for a pot meat, plinking, packing gun? I have a Single 6, and a Browning Buckmark Challenger III, but would like to add a double action to the lineup.
I know they're Not getting any cheaper these days!!!
Thoughts, Likes, Dis-Likes ? Any input is appreciated..
Thanks BigBore44

I have one - a late 50s K22 with a 4" barrel. Love it. The craftsmanship and metal finish are wonderful. Very accurate. It unfortunately did not have the original stocks so I made a set out of English walnut - checkered with medallions. I would like to have more but all my extra $ seems to go to single actions these days! Hope you can track one down. You'll be glad you did.

Personally, I consider the 6" 17 the best DA .22 ever made ... by a mile.

BigBore44 I have never owned a 4" even though I do like them. I would gladly carry a S&W for field use. The accuracy is there, and they are some of the finest 22s made. I do hope that you can capture one, But DO, hold out, for a fine example of one. You will not be sorry. Yes they are high, but worth it. I would like to suggest that you also get a good quality holster for it, and one that has a flap covering the gun. This is to keep dirt and dust out of the gun. Weeds and other trash will jamb them up easily compared to other types of guns, such as autos. (If you plan on carrying in field) . You ask for likes and dislikes : I like a smooth trigger and like to use double action only when shooting one, mainly for practice. Last suggestion: Maintain the little gun with light grease and good quality oil and treat it like a Best Quality gun. After you find one, break it down all the way and perform this action. I am talking removing the cylinder from the gun and removing the cylinder pin and spring from inside and clean it, and put fresh grease in it before shooting the first time. One of the biggest problems with these little guns is that they were shot dry.

Definitely worth acquiring. I have a cosmetically challenged one (the original owner left it in a cheap nylon holster that was wet...)that will shoot with the best of them.

Had a 6" 617 for several years and thought it was the best D/A .22 ever...until I got a 4"! Sold the 6" and have run the 4" steadily ever since.

Grab one of the older ones, they are fantastic guns.

Yeah the 63 is a nice little gun, but I prefer a little more heft of the K frames.. It just feels and balances better for me and therefore I shoot it better Thanks again BigBore44

Congratulations when you get it all dirty again after cleaning we'd probably all like a range report?

I believe the 5 screw premodel K22s are the best of the K models. The 4 inch 5 screw Combat Masterpiece is what I'd recommend.
