Why? Under recoil the stress on the pinkie would be identical to a pinkie-under hold on, say, the XR3 gripframe on my NewVaq357 now.
True, you wouldn't want to run 454Casull horsepower with such a setup!!! But 357Maggie? Why not?
The hole isn't going to be tight. It'll also be "inward sloping and curving" rather than a hole straight through with parallel bore walls.

If you put a hole thru the grip frame, forget about a fast first shot under pressure. I think it would be too far back as well. I woudl bet that if you buy a bisley gripframe and pay a smith to touch it, you will have spent more than a power #5 pretty quick. I could see this working: www.gunblast.com/TiPi_Grips.htm

Now that is interesting looking. I'd love to hang on to one of those to see how they feel.

Seems like the hole would quickly lead to a broken pinky to me too.
What I'd like to see is a replica of the Colt 1860 grip frame made to fit Rugers. Same overall basic shape as the SAA (Navy) but with enough room for the pinky. It is my favorite for all but the hard kickers.

That 1860 grip frame is one of the greatest things about TLA Flattop Targets.

One thing to consider is we all have differing hand structure: small med, large. then there's differing ratios of finger length to palm size and so on. I've often thought that while in general some grip frames are superior to others and perhaps for different purposes, maybe we shouldn't get too hung up on the single best design - the "holy grail" if you will. If there were such a thing wouldn't we all be wearing the same size gloves or socks by now?
If it matters the Freedom Arms model 83 grip frame fits me the best with the Ruger Bisley being too large (no matter how many grip panels I swapped off) and most others too small - at least when talking heavier loads.

Has ayone tried Elmers hammer spring idea, rather than the Ruger coil springs? The V spring Idea ia a very good one,and shuld make for smoother cocking, and faster lock time. just an idea.
