Hi Perry
I am using a fairly hard alloy. It measures 20 to 22 br on my cabin tree tool. I mixed it many years ago using w-w and lino. I have been hauling it around the state with me for decades. I am down to approx. 500lbs now. The powder coating process (400 degrees for 15 min) does remove whatever additional hardening that is added by water dropping or heat treating. But if you start with a relatively hard alloy, that is what you will end up with after the process. I use a very easy and simple coating process!! I just use clear powder, and shake them in the container, and pour them onto a tray made of wire mesh, and them dump them into water after baking. Which in theory, is probably like water quenching from the mold. This way I do not have to handle the individual bullets or stand them up to bake them. With the clear coat, you can't see the minor marks of the wire mesh. I would send some to you , BUT they are sized .501 and would rattle down the barrel of your Linebaugh

Could be dangerous! ....525gr .512, no lube groov, shorter boolit, more powder! Have you shot many? Do you have any pics?

Perry,
PM me your email and I can send you some photos. I will also send some of Bob Baker's huge moose.
I have only gone up to 1400fps with these in the 500WE. According to the data available, 1600 fps is possible!!
1400fps is more than I wanted to shoot on a regular basis, nowadays since I am over the "more is better" stage of my life!!
I should also say, I am a fan of the harder alloy bullets because I like 2 holes for each shot, and I want to know that when I hit something, even from less than optimum angles, that the bullet will completely penetrate. I know that this is not the ideal thing in the smaller game, but I am not worried about the smaller stuff chewing on me!!!

Well my October trip to Kodiak is getting closer!! I am excited!! Life seems to be conspiring against me. My Dad just died recently. He was 95 yrs, and had been sick for several months. He was healthy and active up till a few months ago. The last time I was with him he was talking a lot about his time he spent in England in WW II. He was in the B 17 groups bombing Hitler. He told me something that none of the family ever knew. He had met and fallen in love with a Scottish girl. She was killed in a bombing raid.
I also have been advised that my 2 partners that I had hoped would be able to go to Kodiak, cannot go because of other commitments!!! My wife is not real happy about me going solo. I have done it before, even for goat hunting, which is the most dangerous up here. I know it is not ideal but I can't pass up this once in a lifetime opportunity.
Oh well, a year to remember!!
