I don't even have short term health care... between Blue Cross/ Blue shield, & Mayo health care systems MRS & I got screwed last year... she had a surgery early last year, we pay a premium because we live in Mayo health care area... then we found out after MRS surgery, that our local "Mayo" afiliated clinic, is not in network... $20,000.00 in out of pocket expenses we had no idea we were getting, or we would have went somewhere else to have the surgery... of course they are threatening collection, if we don't pay 10% per month... then the new policy went up, to where insurance for MRS & I would be 1/3 of our taxable income just for health coverage... now my DR decided he wouldn't re-new my prescriptions without labwork, at a lab that is not in network ( late 2015 ) so heck, I dropped health coverage, for the 1st time in 20-25 years... maybe I'll die this year, thanks to the "unaffordable health care act"

I had lthc through my employer until this year. I could have continued it on my own but was just way to expensive. I'm fortunate, my employer provides pretty darn good coverage otherwise.

Wife went thru a rough bout of breast cancer in 13 and 14, a little over a million was the bill. The doc told me the same thing in Europe would be a little over 100k. He said the extra went to the drug companies and insurance companies. Chemo was 52k every 3 weeks. |

Hi, I am one of those "lucky few" who live in Denmark (Bernie Sanders' Utopia). I just had a (benign) tumor cut out of my gut. Did not cost me a dime - paid already through income tax. But this system would never work in USA. Why? A public healthcare system like ours is probably a lot cheaper than yours - but also not quite as good. Almost as good - yes - but I doubt "almost" will cut it for the demanding average American consumer. In fact - many people here have an additional health insurance via their workplace - so they can go to a private clinic and not have to wait in line. But still - the amount of money you guys spend on health insurance is staggering. "Greed" might have somthing to do with it - and perhaps also liability issues. The myth here (dont know if its true) is that the amount American hospitals pay in legal settlements every year is higher than the entire public health budget of Denmark.... but then again - as Bill O´reilly pointed out - only 15 people live in Denmark  |

I pay almost $6,000 a year with a $6,000 deductible. So if anything happens, I'm out $12k before the insurance picks it up. |

Yow I have great medical insurance it's long term nursing I am asking about. Like nursing home care or round the clock in home nursing care. Gov will take every asset you have before they kick in . Anybody? Frigging horrible subject!

Anybody? Frigging horrible subject! Wont take ever asset, if either one of you stays at home while one goes in, they just take half. Be warned, if you have $200k in the bank and $300k worth of real estate. They will take the bank account and tell you that you owe $50k. My father had nursing home care and it helped cover about half of his $3,200 a month nursing home bill. It helps, but if you wait too late, you wont qualify. |
