Wow I'll bet recoil was stout in that light gun. I use a 200gr bullet & 7-1/2grs of Unique, it's still a pretty formatible load.

I'd like a range report when you get to it. Thanks.

I've already received and tested it. I got down to about 2 1/2", but 3 " @ 25 yards was the norm.
After shooting, I measured the throats at just over .431" and the bore at .4307".
I was shooting .430" cast bullets, so results as expected.
I am going to load some .430" XTP jacketed bullets and .431" cast. I am betting the performance will improve dramatically.
I will report.

Encore64 If accuracy does not improve right off, you might try some PC bullets. They seem to be a good remedy for a few problem children.

Actually, I have some of those to try. I spoke to Matt today and he is going to size me a batch to .432" for this gun.
Thanks for the suggestion, I will try both possible solutions at the same time.

Well, if ya like the bullet, that 250 wadcutter, but recoil and wear-n-tear a bit much, nobody says you have to use 7.5grs of Unique. Try 6 grs.. Luck ! I haven't tried them yet, but the Thompson designed 215-ish gr SWC might be in the just right category for the Bulldogs. I like, but have less than a box left of the Speer 225gr HP's of old. That McPhearson guy likes 200gr XTP's in the jacketed end of the pool.

The 7.5 grns of Unique isn't terrible for use, but a bit much for extended target sessions.
I had some loaded for my Ruger Bisleys, but will work up some for the Charter Arms later.
I do have some 180 & 200 grn XTPs. May give them a try. But, think for stopping power, the Matt's is the bullet.

RCBS makes a very nice 200gr mold for the .44-40 & I've used it in the bulldog. I'd shoot it unsized & see what it did.
