Had a single 7 or do 101 in .327 on my list for a while. Almost every gun shop / show I visit, I check for .327 federal magnum ammo. Only one has had it in stock aND that at about $1 per shot. I've heard repeatedly it is cheap to reload, but I don't yet. I see .44 mag and .357 mag ammo even cheaper. Why the dirth of more reasonably priced plinking / target ammo in 327?

It's never been as common a cartridge as 9mm, 38 special, 357 magnum, 44 magnum, or 45 ACP. Tons of stores stock it but usually not the local ones. If you don't reload you'd be better off looking online. Great little cartridge and indeed cheap to reload if you get into it down the road.

Ammo was the issue I saw when the Ruger 327 LCR hit the shelves. I saw a fine little DAO revolver but no relatively inexpensive off the shelf ammo. Not an issue for the reloader but not good for everyone else..

Just about all calibers have become a reloader's game IMO. I can't afford to shoot much of anything unless I load it myself.
32 is very cheap to load, if you're set up to load your own. 1k cast bullets at around $85-$90 and you're in plinking heaven, whether it's paper targets or rats at the junk yard.
The Speer self defense loads do run about $1 each. The Federal American Eagle line runs a little better at around $24-$27 for 50 rounds.

My next handgun will be a S&W 69 with a Baranti holster; but next in line will be either a 5.5" Single Seven or SP 101 in .327. For mostly plinking and targets of opportunity; but possibly to include some small game hunting (rabbits or groundhogs), which would you choose? I have a number of semi-autos that would likely get the nod for self defense...
One of my nephews recently purchased a progressive reloader. I don't think he has used it yet, but...
Which bullets, powder, cases, etc. Would you recommend and from where?

SG Ammo is out of stock right now but normally has the American Eagle 50 round boxes for ~$27-8 a box. The 100 grain load is HOT.

Thank you all. I'll check with my nephew about reloading this weekend.
Between a Single Seven and SP 101, which would you choose?

Splurged a bit this morning. Ordered the S&W 69 .44 mag and a Ruger SP 101 .327. Then stopped by gunshot with my wife and they had a brand new S&W .460xvr Bone Collector in the display. I asked to see it. Wife did too. She thought it was cool and suggested we buy it. Impulse purchase of a gun Ive liked since it first came out. Gun shop said they've had it on order forever and it just came in.

Sounds like a keeper Does she have any single sisters? Enjoy your new toyz... Post pics when you get'em... That 69 is on my "Must Have" list. One of these days that list may get shorter/caught up to, but I Seriously Doubt It! BigBore44
